But seriously, friggin' spoilers please? I've still not got further than Astonishing, so I shouldn't know Kitty's fate..

Iron Man.

Tony Stark is just all-around the most human character in my eyes. He develops throughout all of Marvel continuity, as does his role in the universe. Where he was once an idealistic man with an alcohol problem, now he's quite literally become 'The Man.'

Other than that, I just find his general quirky and smart-alec-ness to be genuinely awesome. The suit itself also being ten tons of awesome (sometimes literally.) In a universe full of Persons of Mass Destruction and literal gods, he always finds a way to be beat them all, or at least be able to compete with them, with his noodle and a new version of his suit.

Also, I think he has the best movies...except, of course, for Dark Knight.

EDIT: Honorable mentions:

Captain America...
Spiderman...
Rorschach...

and CAPTAIN GORDON, DEFENDER OF EARTH!!!

Although Batman because Batman, I'd like to give an honorary mention to Dr Solar, Captain Hammer and the cast of the Freedom Force games.

...you're an evil person for making me answer this question. How am I meant to decide!?

All right, all right. It's a toss-up for me between the Flash, Batman and Spider-Man. Sure, I only really buy Marvel comics but the Flash is cool as hell and Batman is, well, Batman. I think I prefer Spider-Man's personality and fighting style, though. He spins a web, kicks you in the face, dodges your ice beam, makes a joke, punches you again, makes another joke, webs you in the face and then finishes you. Then makes a joke.

Iron Man, always liked they guy.
Of course Batman and the Martian Manhunter are pretty nice to but Iron Man is the favourite.

Same goes with Batman. Excepting the Avengers thing.

Superman isn't a Super Hero. He's god. The only thing he can't do is anything he hasn't tried yet.

Wolverine isn't a Super Hero. He's a mutant, and an X-man. What he does doesn't follow the archetype of how super hero's function.

Polls for these are terrible, it's always too limiting.

As far as the people who do follow the archetype? Captain America.....Or Thor.
Well you're a funny guy... So, Superman isnt a superman because he is a God, and Wolverine isnt a superhero as he is a (natural) mutant (enhanced with a adamantium skeleton), yet Thor the God of Thunder and Captain America a man that has purposely been mutated to be at peak human human physical conditions (he doesn't really have any "super powers") are Superheroes? Hmmm :p
Sure maybe Batman and Iron Man should just be called costumed crime fighters or costumed vigilantes but is it really that different?

Wikipedia puts it as
"By most definitions, characters strictly require actual superhuman powers to be deemed superheroes.[3] However, this term can be applied to characters who perform the same functions but are devoid of such powers and abilities who are alternately referred to as costumed crime fighters;"
Personally I'd just call all comicbook heroes superheroes and be done with it.

maddawg IAJI

I prefer the term "Zomguard"

Wait a minute. A guy who has super strength, super speed and other superhuman abilities is not deemed a superhero because he is godlike,(Even though every single member of his race possess these abilities, meaning that from his standpoint, he's actually normal.) but an actual god (Thor) is deemed a superhero?

Also, Wolverine is a super hero. The archetype requires the person to possess some form of superhuman ability and to protect the public. Wolverine does both (Super Regeneration and he protects normal folks from the Mutant Brotherhood.).

The only people on the list that wouldn't fit into the archtype are Batman, Iron Man and The Green Lantern and even then you could argue that the first two are super geniuses who use their knowledge to help protect humanity.

That all said, I pick Spiderman for my favorite. He's always been the best superhero in my eyes.

Tie between Deadpool, for sheer hilarity and constant breaking of the fourth wall, and Ghost Rider. Why because cause a guy with a flaming skull for a head is just too cool.

Come on, no one is cooler than Batman. Partly because he doesn't actually have any super powers and it's just sheer determination that makes him so powerful and partly because he respects human life enough to make it his principle not to take any, even in his darkest hour.

Also, I just wanted to add that my captcha is "scrope hisgica" which sounds seriously disturbing. =/

Hellboy. Based purely on the first movie - I don't read comics, and every superhero movie I watch puts me off the idea - the last superhero movie I watched was Green Lantern, so obviously I've gouged out my frontal lobe with a rusty spoon.

The only batman incarnation I liked was that old ZX Spectrum game, with the isometric Batman that looks awesome. Pixelated batman, anyone remember that?...

But yeah, Hellboy kicks ass.

Also technically Captain America is a mutant by definition, the only difference being his mutation was injected into him while Wolverines was born with his mutation.
By our definitions, yes he is a mutant. But in universe they call normal people who get powers "mutates".
I have never heard the term "mutates" was a noun before, well at least I know now.

Oh indeed, I was just offering an interpretation rather than the space-jesus everyone seems to think he is. I think it's more of a line wide thing than just Superman, all DC heroes are these high powered god figures (even Batman, with his crazy preparedness). It's not necessarily a bad thing, it makes for epic (in the true sense of the word, not the internet interpretation) storytelling. But I agree for more personal and character based story telling marvel characters like the Hulk are better.
Which is ironic considering Batman has the perfect back story for a character-driven tale. But many of his stories are more about him being so crazy ready for everything that I'm surprised they even manage to escape. You'd think he'd look into that; rebuild Arkham as the ultimate prison.

The Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, the world's greatest detective, the god damn Batman. Batman all the way. He's got no super powers, but he's got more experience and bad ass in his ears than the rest of the Justice League combined. I also want to point out that Batman made himself into a super hero. Spiderman, Green Lantern, Superman, Wolverine, they got lucky. They had power dropped into their lap without even trying. Batman worked for it, he earned it.

Alex Mercer...best superhero ever conceived. Lifting tanks with his bare hands and tentacle-ing helicopters is badass. Plus, his version of New York is over-run by zombies. Also, he's kind of in a grey area morally...no over the top good guy antics.
You know who would play a good Mercer in a movie? Hayden Christensen. Think about, watch Jumper, it gives me the same vibe. I think it would work perfectly.

I have not seen that particular movie. I will definitely have to check it out. I always thought InFamous had a good premise for a movie.
