Anything but a bloody Katana... sick to death of them, they aren't even that good as swords. Oh don't get me wrong, some of them are incredible works of art, but as a sword (pointy end or sharp edge in the other bloke) they aren't that impressive, and the weeboos and other freaks have dragged them into every thing making them out of date.

Personally I like the Spatha, a Roman heavy infantry weapon that latter influenced a lot of later weaponry.

That being said there is something to be said for the Claymore for sheer badassitude.

Gimme a short sword and a large shield any day. It worked for the Romans and pretty much everyone else.

On a side note, I do get annoyed how ridiculous some swords look in games. In Skyrim I always end up keeping a more basic weapon because the others are over designed to the point of silliness.

A greatsword, to be specific one forged out of the soul of a giant wolf.

That's a waste of a perfectly good wolf soul! You could make the best shield in the game instead with it!
I'm a fan of rapiers. As someone who actually has trained to use them, it's quite nice to be able to stab, and not leave yourself open to attack by putting your whole body into a giant swing.

"Opens up a window and does a google search" Hm...would you look at that. There's something to try next play through.

Combine it with the Dragonslayer's spear, and Black Iron armor, and you're basically unstoppable.

I like greatswords when they could be wielded with ease and speed otherwise elaborate longswords like Frostmourne. Katana's are overrated and gunblades beat all.

It was close between curved and longsword, but longswords were given the edge

Would the Keyblade be considered in other? I loves me my good ol' beating stick.

If not then I'll have to go with curved swords.
Yeah! High five!

Would bladed gauntlets count? Because I think that wielding two Deathclaw Gauntlets would be my preferred method of killing. If not that, then blades attached to the wrists. Or lances. The lances aren't attached to the wrist.

I have a preference for medium sized javelins (about 4/5 feet, long enough to use as a quarter staff but still throw able) though I do have an affinity for the gladius, especially paired with a scutum.

Great sword because
that's why. But in all serious, they are awesome in gaming only if you are capable of wielding them like they're sticks. If there is realitic drag to them, then I would prefer a curves sword like a katana or a scimitar, or a machete katana because that is a thing, and it looks awesome. I don't care if it's a tool first, weapon second, I just wanna dice someone up with one.

Shortsword, quick and deadly. It takes a little more effort to get close enough to use it, but this isn't a discussion about efficiency.

If I can't have a nice double-bladed sword....'sigh'

then I'll take a rapier. Feelin' fancy as I poke someone to death. :D

Longswords without a doubt.

Simple, effective and stylish.

What more could you possible want?

Bat'leth should win hands down.

If I had to choose a sword that has actually really existed in history I would have to go with either the katana or the kukri.

I voted curved swords - I love the look of them - but I like dualwielding shortswords as well - or a shortsword & dagger combo. Bastards are nice too.
