So I just beat XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and I figured I'd make a thread to see which alien happens to be the most popular among those who have played the game.

For me, I really liked the Mutons and Chrysalids.

The Mutons had a pretty cool design, (especially later variants) and the way they roar and beat their chests made them pretty intimidating when I first met them.

The Chrysalids were nasty critters. Not only do they tear apart anything they can get their claws on, but they also implant their eggs into their victims, which zombifies them, and finally, a new Chrysalid is born out of them.

To those who played the older games, please feel free to list any alien species that didn't appear in the latest game if there are any. As I've never played the older games.

EDIT: Forgot to add Cyberdiscs and Sectopods. Sorry. X(

Mutons, because Berserkers.

I just like the way that in a game where everyone else is swinging laser guns and plasma cannons those guys roll in armed with nothing but spiked knuckles and a general tendency to not give a shit.

Also, they're very fun to use in multiplayer. I've found that most people don't expect big, mean motherfuckers to come bursting through the walls.

Agreed, they are awful combat units but those things are damn creepy. I have a heart attack every time they appear.

Thin men, because it is so damn relaxing to put my colonel snipers up in the air on council missions and just thwack them one after another.

Aw, robots don't count? The new cyberdisc unfolding thing is horrifying. I love that animation.

However even the Bersekers look indeed badass, they don't use their brain properly. If a Berseker come close to an soldier of mine, I simple shoot him with other soldier only to come closer to the shooter -_-....
I hope for a clever Berseker breed in the future that when he start a job to kill someone, to do so even if other shoot him.

EDIT:
My English are terrible X(
Need more practice...

Chrysalids definitely. I'll always remember the first time I ever encountered one.

Learning the hard way that they have massive movement capabilities, can 1 hit you if you don't have good armor, will then zombify your soldiers and then if you don't kill your zombie squadmates another Chrysalid will pop out was terrifying.

Discovering all of those things was the most horrifying and tense 5 turns in the entire game.

I want to say Sectoids because they go to bits easily, but in all honesty I have to say Mutons. They are flipping Serious and the first time you fight them you're like; "shit just got real".

Thin Men

I really like how they can jump around. Also they pull the creepy human alien thing off well.

I gotta go with the Thin Men. They're creepy yet fashionable. That makes for a very strange combination. Freaking hate their poison attack.

I don't think a berserker has ever successfully hit one of my soldiers.
It's especially fun to have an assault with the ability that grants opportunity shots on anything that comes close shoot one, then their movement makes the assault shoot them again.
I like Mutons, because they're the first enemy that actually poses a threat. Elite Mutons make you step up your game, and unlike sectopods and Etherals (The other enemies you encounter at the same point in the campaign) there are more than 2 per map, making them a consistent threat, as opposed to something you can quickly focus your party on to dispose of.

I like the Sectoids because of the noises they make.

Thin Men are also fun to shoot.

I like Outsiders the most because they're not that hard to kill and fuck off the earliest in the game.

Although it's the Cyberdisks I find the most creepy. When that thing comes from nowhere and folds into combat mode, drifting ever so closer to one of my soldiers I'm like: "Oh... Shit."

Sectoids. I like their classical look.

Besides, the possibility of Sectoid Commanders controlling my own troops is the stuff nightmares are made of.

The Sectopod.
it's basicly the equivalent of the alien battletank, they ruin your day every time you meet them.

high accuracy and damage on it's main weapon that not only deals adjacent damage, but also obliterates any cover you're behind.
they also have a back-up plasma weapon for their over watch that NEVER ENDS!

special mention goes to berserkers:

It's between the Cyberdisc and the Chryssalid.

The Cyberdisc has that classic flying saucer aesthetic, which also reminds me a lot of the 1950s War of The Worlds film that scared the everliving shit out of me when I watched it at about the age of 6 or 7, and the mysterious, intricate machinery when it attacks.

Chryssalids were the bane of my squad's lives in Ufo Defense and they spelled the end for my first attempt at Classic Ironman when three of them jumped off of a building and gave three quarters of my team a rather enthusiastic hug each. As far as senseless killing machines go, Chryssalids are nigh perfect.

I think I slightly prefer Cyberdiscs but I wouldn't be able to say why. There's just something about them that does it.
