Aw, robots don't count? The new cyberdisc unfolding thing is horrifying. I love that animation.
Yeah, seems like an oversight in the poll to not include Cyberdisc and Sectopods. Also drones. I love the ability to take control of a drone for a mission, because they are the perfect scouts. Good mobility, hard to hit, and they have a self-destruct ability that turns them into flying grenades.

But, of the options given on the poll, I picked the Chrysalids. That animation where they kill someone and then lay eggs inside their brain...that's just terrifying. I only wish I could mind-control them.

The only good XCOM aliens are dead XCOM aliens.

But I guess I like the regular little grey grunts the best... It's fun shooting at their giant heads.

Chrysalids can kiss my ass....hated those things.

The lobster man, whatever they were called, were the most unpredictable in the first 2 games. Sometimes they have titanium armor, sometimes they fall apart like tissue paper. But they were the most vital to the psionic research.

I admit that I haven't actually PLAYED the game, but I've watched an LP of it, and I gotta go with the underdog here. Outsiders for the win!

Seriously, these things are one of the few things that actually feel ALIEN. They're bizarre, unlike anything we've ever sen on Earth, mysteriously and creepily quiet...I hope they appear much, muh more in the future. And that X-COM 2 has more bizarre and crazy things like them, things that are actually unearthly in appearance.

Sectoids, yes I know starting enemy yada yada, but damn those little diaper babies sure know how to pull off a critical hit at the worst possible moment, that and they have their creepy insect eyes that twitches and it really freaks me out.

I have to go with the Sectopod myself. I just beast it yesterday as well and the first time I took down a supply barge, I was sending my team through it and suddenly at the end of every alien movement phase, I heard a distinct *thud* ... *thud* ... *thud*, and all I could think was "I can actually hear whatever that thing is walking, and I can't hear berserkers walking... this thing is bigger than a berserker?" When I finally found it, it was sitting at the far end of the outside walkway of the ship, with minimal cover between my squad and him, and muton elites (also the first time I'd seen them, but I barely even noticed them at the time) climbing all over the ship and attacking from weird directions.

Honorable mention goes to ethereals, simply because of my first encounter with them. Small scout ship, cleared out a few mutons and floaters out front, and was moving my squad of 5 colonels and 1 major through the ship. Move both of my assaults and my support past the small middle room, saw nothing, and moved on. Posted my heavy on the far side of the door, and lastly moved the major sniper to a position behind some cover outside the middle room. That's when I see the two muton elites guarding the ethereal in the middle room. None of the soldiers I moved past or posted on the door could see anyone in the room, and my last move spotted them. Thankfully, the ethereal MCed my major sniper, though my heavy was caught by the mutons, suppressed, and brought down to 5 hp, and none of my assaults or my support could help him. I had to take a risk and had him make a run for it, and luckily he dodged the reaction shot. Then I moved in the rest of my squad, at which point the ethereal deflected half of my shots against it, and proceeded to drop a rift right on top of my team. By the end of that fight, the major was dead thanks to the ethereal parking her in the rift, my support and my favorite assault both got critically wounded and were bleeding out on the floor, and through a sheer miracle, my colonel sniper, assault, and heavy managed to rush in and finish off the remaining enemies. I think my colonel sniper was the only one that wasn't out of comission for at least 2 weeks. I also decided to bring a second support on most missions after that, since I was tired of the only guy with the medikit being the one on the floor bleeding out.

Thin Men, just because of their quite-human-yet-very-alien appearance.
Although my second pick would be the Ethereals, just for their royal aesthetic.

Psimorph, because fuck Psimorphs. Once that monstrosity eats your whole squad for the first time you're not the same man anymore.

Wow, I totally forgot that there was a new Xcom for a bit when I saw the thread title. But I guess this poll is mostly about the remake.

Anyway, cyberdisks. I think that they and chrysalids got the best updates from their original incarnation. Would've loved to see new, non-shitty reapers (for those who haven't played the original: giant, two legged cows with terrible AI and a melee attack that supported floaters on terror missions), but I guess that's basically just what muton berserkers are.

I need to vote for worst as well, because those Sectopods really piss me off. They can already kill an unarmoured soldier in one hit, but two shots per turn? That's just mean.

Outsiders.

I just wish they were actually outside UFO missions, because they're awesome.

Also wish you could play them in multi.

I'm going to break the mold here and go for the Heavy Floater.

They're only moderately dangerous as enemies, but their true potential is only revealed when you Mind Control one. Suddenly you have a reasonably tough, decently damaging disposable scout that can use the Launch ability to go pretty much anywhere you want.

The Thin Men. There's something really badass about the way they move. They're just so imposing and even when they're about to die, they don't lose their cool.

Also I vote for the Floaters because Quake 2.
Quake 2 is one of my favourite FPS of all time and these angry cyborgs of anger remind me the good times I had with the game.

My favorite is lobstermen, they don't fuck around. For those unfamiliar with Terror From the Deep, lobstermen are a little like underwater Mutons with big claws, except they can be encountered at the very beginning. To make matters worse they are almost immune to small arms fire so you have to get close and personal with the buggers.

In the new XCOM I think my favorite is Thin Men. They are sufficiently sneaky and rage inducing to be a classic.

Thin men, they're reveal animations are always good, the first few have them have them all 'nothing to see here, just some tall guys having a chat' then they quickly turn to 'holy fuck did you see that!?!' When they start hissing at you.

On the flipside I'd say my worst was the Beserker, not for anything in-game (Sectopods are much worse enemies to fight) but for some reason every time the beserker did his rage run towards you my computer would freeze[footnote]Though that does tell you how badass they were, when they run even my computer cowers in fear[/footnote] and the game would be laggy as hell until he finished moving, not great when it takes 5 shots to take him out :|

Let's see...in the original, Sectopods were up there in aesthetics as well as being fairly tough if you just stumbled across one. Alternately, everyone loves the grinning Chryssalid.

For Terror From The Deep, the Triscene and Tasoth were pretty novel and not quite as distressingly nightmarish as the Xarquids, Hallucinoids, and Tentaculats.

The less said about Apocalypse's alien design, the better. Too ugly and bland to even engage my interest.

For Enemy Unknown, the new Cyberdisc is pretty fun to watch, and while the Outsiders are boring tactically, they're pretty neat aesthetically.

While it's probably heresy to say this, I preferred Enforcer's Snakeman model to that of the original.

Thin Men.

Because they sure do like to kill in style with their clean cut suit-up looks.
Dang straight.
We need more ninja businessmen in gaming.

Thin Men are my official X-COM 2012 rivals. Considering how tough a lot of the other aliens are, that's saying something.
But if you're wearing a suit and you look like you mean serious business, I can't help but view at you as a worthy foe regardless of your lackluster constitution.

My blood boils at the sight of you, Thin Men.
My men will gain much honor by putting rounds through all your heads.

I played the XCOM multiplayer once, with basically a team of sectoids and a muton elite whom I named 'Ernesto'.

He's my favourite, for sure.
