It's funny, GTA 2 seemed to have no fixed time... I mean some of the cars were pretty 50s, 60s, some were also more contemporary, but a lot of the buildings seemed pretty brown'd out and stuff, I don't know when the game was supposed to take place~
Depends where you are looking at really. Some sources say 2012, but others (like in the booklet I believe) tells that it is always a few years in advance.
You think GTA 2 was set in 2012? The books say so?

Wow, I never would have guessed. I mean some of the cars are really 50s, some of the other cars are quite 60s, and I don't remember any more recent cars than that in the game.. even the cop cars were wagons... I dunno ur probably right but it still strikes me as weird...

I guess the science gang's cars might have been kinda 70s?
Well, I always considered the game more retro futuristic. Which I really like about that game, and it is one of the ways it managed to set itself apart from later titles (and making me want a new GTA game with a similar setting).

San Andreas was the last and most-advanced GTA before things got too complicated, just in terms of gameplay. I didn't want to be bothered on the cellphone and do unwanted mini-games with Niko Bellic's brother and stuff. I wanted to be a bad dude with a bunch of guns, doing my thing, and San Andreas delivered. After that, Saint's Row games delivered, but those games are more light-hearted than GTA.

It's hard for me to decide between IV and V. In IV, I loved the combat and vehicle handing, both of which were watered down in V because the 360 and PS3 couldn't handle the processing power it would have taken to keep the old stuff and get the new stuff. That said, the new stuff in V is good enough that I usually don't think too much about the things that were cut out. Having the pros of both of the games would be my ideal GTA, but alas for now I think I'll just have to say that they're both my favourites.

For me, it has to be San Andreas.
The game just added more things, and made everything better (well, at least most things.

Plus, I just can't forget about the cheats.
Flying through the air with a stupid car, travelling the world.

So many good times.
Weirdly enough SA's world feels bigger than GTAV, and they've said that 5's world is much bigger than SA's, which is weird.
