I went and saw Captain America last night and quite frankly I thought it was fantastic. Of all the Avengers movies so far I have to say this one was probably my favourite, verrrry closely by the first Iron Man. When I said so, me and a couple of my friends debated for a pretty significant amount of time over which was the best and why.

So Escapist, what is your favourite Avengers movie and why? And for added discussion value, are you excited for The Avengers or do you really not give a shit?

Well, I've only seen the incredible hulk and iron man so far, but out of those two...

Both. I'm actually having real trouble deciding. To be honest iron man Is probably the better film, but I always liked the hulk more as a superhero. That, and Edward norton was in it. Downey jnr may be damn funny, but Edward norton's just damn amazing.

So if I was pushed, I'd say iron man, but that is out of only two films, and very close out of that.

If the other two films are up to that standard, then I look forward to seeing them when I can.

As for the avengers, it pains me that it will be missing Edward norton, but otherwise, it's looking to be pretty damn good.

So far I've only seen Iron Man 1, 2, and Incredible Hulk. I have yet to see Thor and Cpt. America so I'm clearly not qualified to answer this question.

But out of what I've seen I would go with Iron Man 1.

Iron Man 1 - Funny, charming and fresh. Weak 3rd act let it down slightly.

Iron Man 2 - Somewhat weighed down by the Avengers, not as fresh as the first. Better action.

Captain America - Solid all around. Red Skull and the romance were kinda iffy though.

Thor - The weakest of the bunch, with awful forced romance, and somewhat underwhelming action. Still good by any means though.

I can't speak for the Hulk films.

Toss up between Iron Man 1 and Thor.

Second place goes to Captain America.

Third goes to Iron Man 2.

And last (but not least), is Hulk.

It's actually ALOT closer than I'm making it out, they're almost equally good, it's just a matter of my personal preference.

Thor, definitely. I LOVED the Asgard visuals, Branaghs vision and expansion of the marvel cinematic universe on screen was brilliant.

otherwise I'm very torn. I think I'd put Iron man 2 as the weakest of the bunch... but that's like saying I like Return of the Jedi least of the original/proper Star Wars trilogy.

edit: Uhh, where's the Poll?

Iron Man hands down. Captain America was pretty good but all that American (we are the best) mentality wears thin (if your not American like me :D ). That being said the whole American patriotism was not done badly (far from it, I thought, like movie Bob, that it was well balanced and not too in your face). It;s just that when you get sooooo much of it on TV already anytime I see it now it becomes annoying (even if done well). So yeah, Iron Man.

1. Iron Man (just a fun movie start to finish)

2. Captain America (most faithful comic to movie adaptation)

3. Hulk (Norton as Bruce was excellent and the movie being more about him on run from General Ross and trying to get rid of the hulk was great, except the CGI and Betty Ross were bland)

4. Thor (great when in Asgard, but lacking on Midgard with the badly scripted love story...)

5. Iron Man 2 (rushed script and loose direction made the great acting cast feel dull and disappointing...)

Well so far I've only seen Iron Man and it's sequel. S I really can't say, but I'm looking forward to watching Thor, and Captain America, and more so the Avengers movie whenever it's released(2012?).

I really liked Ironman; but I'm gonna be honest its just becuase I like giant robots and really arrogant heroes (and confidence in general).

Thor however was a real surprise; I thought it was gonna suck. but it came off as well executed and entertaining. it really exceeded my expectations. it really felt like we had a Norse god come to earth and be completely

Captain America was good as well but didn't have the same charm that Thor did; but it was very patriotic. However it wasn't aggressively patriotic or chauvinistic, so it was more like saying "america can be awesome too". I also kinda felt the move was a little cheesy; but it kinda worked for the movie and all of it's aesthetic so it was totally awesome. (kinda how x-men first class drew inspiration from the bond films and the perception of the 60's to reinforce the film).

all in all I think the films are defiantly getting better and all worth watching. Most of these films aren't to campy and really try to respect the franchise instead of just going for a cash grab. They often have well picked, talented teams at the helm running these movies so all in all I think they are all pretty good. (x-men is only good if Bryan Singer is directing though; I mean he did do The Usual Suspects for pete-sake!)

Probably Captain America. In fact, I'd be damn close to saying it's one of, if not THE best movies I've seen this year.

Definitely gonna be Edgar Wright's Ant-man movie. I just know I'm gonna love it.
