Just a little poll: which military empire do you admire, fear, or simply like the most? Give reasons below too, I'm really interested to see what kind of image they have in modern day, and how popular they are to people who play games!

If an empire isn't on the list (most likely because it was too small) feel free to add it in your comments.

As a British man, I'm obliged to pick the best one.

Considering how Britain is a small island nation, at one point she ruled a massive portion od the world, very admirable, if you forget about all that entails...

Too small to make the cut, at a mere 2.2m sq miles! ¬_¬

There's gonna be a lot of these comments, isn't there?

Even though it wasen't that big it's probably the most popular one. Not just due to the characters of it. but also it's military, (structure, strategy etc.) culture and fiction.

I wanted to vote for the Byzantine Empire, but alas, it's not even technically an empire :p

As I am of russian blood I do feel obligated to pick the Russian empire (it's also the closest one in history)
But I won't, the one that impresses me the most is the Mongolian empire, so that's what I pick

I think its size given the time it was in is still pretty impressive, the British Empire had more technology and knowledge of the world at its disposal.

I would've gone Roman, but out of those I chose Mongol.

Edit: Also the Achaemenid/Persian Empire gets a mention for how early it was in my books, even if it fell apart since its authority was stretched too thin. It also had the largest empire by percentage of the world's population. So I would put it in my top 3.

Our western culture came to be when Roman culture got mixed up with Christianity.
Our world wouldn't exist if it weren't for the Romans.
It's not size that matters, it's what you do with it!

They so were! They had the whole of the Mediterranean!
Sure it was nothing else than the Roman Empire's descendant, and not big enough to cut the list, but still

Well, at least they used Viking mercenaries and Greek Fire, they certainly had some pretty awesome weaponry!

No, it's the media exposure you get that matters. Western culture owes everything to all the empires listed above to varying degrees. Which of the above empires first colonised the Americas and created the most powerful nation in the modern world?

That's right, the French and Spanish! Don't mess with Canada and Mexico!

Ah Britannia, I'm glad you are first. My ancestors originated from this empire, and it is largely alive today (USA, Britain, Australia, Canada, and so on).

The Mongols weren't good at anything but fighting, and they conquered the shit out of Eurasia. Y'know, it's possible the Bubonic Plague was a Chinese biological attack on them to free China from their grasp.

Roman. I don't care about the size, they were the most awesome. It gave the basis for Western civilization as it is today. Any comparison about empires has to include Rome in some way. Hail Caesar!
