I am disappointed by the lack of the Roman Empire.

Where's the roman?
Too small to make the cut, at a mere 2.2m sq miles! ¬_¬

There's gonna be a lot of these comments, isn't there?
Yes. Many.
You got your facts wrong The Ottoman Empire formed from the east Roman empire after it collapsed and never gained the size the old roman empire had at its peak. More then 70% of the Ottoman empire was roman land. The size you reported must be lumping the Safavid and or the Martha empire into it as a larger Muslim empire even though they were often at odds because they practiced different sects of Islam.

This. However, when it comes to our solar system I have to give the German Empire (1871?1918) some credit. Zeppelins, a fleet significant enough to challenge the British and some of the best soldiers in history. Not to mention the Red Baron. Or the fact it took 4 nations to take it down, one of which they forced to quit.

Yes, the Germans are tough. Too bad their leadership was horrible after Bismarck. Or maybe its a good thing. Who knows.

The pommy side of me says the British Empire, the Assyrian side of me says just about anything to come out of the Middle East. The future Australian dictator in me says the best is yet to come, and you should all be joyful and fearful in an emotion I like to call "joyfearl".

Mine's not finished yet.

Ehm, deployed NATO-troops and UN-pacifiers... That doesn't constitute an empire, the US never was an empire by it self, it was part of the British so...

I am sorry OP, but this wins. By far. Very far.
What better Empire than one with storm-troopers and people capable of strangling other people telepathically could you ask for?

As for real Empires, the Roman's had the coolest, but the British the most powerful. Yes, It is a cop-out answer.

I'm biased so I'll say British. We had the most hilariously one sided fight of all time (Anglo-Zanzibar War total length 40 minutes), Agincourt, the most awesome sight seen on a battlefield - a man in a kilt, carrying a claymore and a longbow whilst playing the bagpipes (Mad Jack), we beat up napoleon and a tagteam of a half arsed navy and the English weather destroyed the mighty armada.

Then the Mongolians for the sheer fear factor, incredible military tactics and the fact they actually managed to take over Russia. They are also (possibly) responsible for the rise of Europe as the worlds military powerhouse by introducing us to Gunpowder.

Then the Romans;

"Reg: All right ... all right ... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order ... what have the Romans done for us?

Xerxes: Brought peace!

Reg: What!? Oh ...Peace, yes ... shut up!"

As a British man, I'm obliged to pick the best one.
What he said. The influence of the British Empire on the past 100 years in enormous, probably a close second to the Romans. And since the Romans aren't a choice, patriotism wins out.

Therefore I shall not vote.

I dont give a flying fuck about size, Im choosing the macedonian empire...

I mean, one of, of not the most influencial empire known to man, who in the life time of a single ruler expanded from a part of greece to control all of the central civilized world...

seriously, if they empire wouldnt have crumbled from the death of alexander, probably by having an official hair, they could and probably would have took over the entire world before the A.D. flip...

plus, hellenism is fucking interesting

British Empire hands down. I just wish Cameron would stop bloody apologising for every thing the British have done. I can't stand when leaders apologise for past actions that their country took.
