It's gotta be return of the Jedi, that final lightsaber battle is just too epic.

On another note, did you intentionally omit 'Attack of the clones' - or is it just that nobody's voted for it??? :p

Out of the originals it's hard to pick they're all brilliant... though I think I liked Empire Strikes Back the most...<.<

I never understood why people hated the Phantom Menace so much. i thought it was better than Clones or Sith. I personally like the addition of Midi-Chlorians, I don't know why it's so hated.

But anyway, for me, it's Return of the Jedi. First, it has the best line in cinematic history (It's a trap!) and second... I dunno, it just rocks. Still the entire Original Trilogy just conglomerates into one big pile of movie awesomeness in my mind. It's hard for me to pin down why I like star wars, but it's in there somewhere. I love each one about the same, but I'd probably pick Jedi in the end.

Revenge of the Sith, half because it had the best lightsaber battles, which is honestly the only reason I'd watch any of them.

And half to piss people off. /joke

And thus far the clear leader is Empire Strikes Back, with over half the votes and just over triple its nearest competitor, A New Hope. I've never felt more at home with the Escapist than I do right now.

Empire. Everything the prequels didn't have, plus the consistency the other originals lacked.

I like Empire the best.

In lieu of my disagreement with my brother about why Return of the Jedi is the best, I really don't like the Ewoks. At first, they are savages who are going to kill and roast our heroes, including R2 (would love to see how that would work out of them).

Then all of a sudden, we get this light-hearted story and now they're a bunch of lovable teddy bears? And then go on to beat an Imperial ground division? WTF.

Plus, I would like to have seen some more ship-to-ship fighting. In Revenge of the Sith we see Republic and Separatist battlecruisers duke it out with huge mounted guns. I would really have like to see just how powerful a Star Destroyer really was when it opens up and unleashes on the Calamari cruisers and Rebel fighters.

All in all, I like Return, but it just cannot match the mean, dark tone of Empire. A New Hope made the Empire look like a bunch of bumbling idiots, and the sequel totally redeemed them.

What's also really cool is that there was a rough draft script for Empire that was set to the low-budget designs of the A New Hope. Lucas wanted to do all three of the original trilogy regardless of success. However, since A New Hope was a smashing commercial success, he didn't have to cut corners and instead was able to made the big budget version of Empire we all know and love today. I would still like to see what the original low-budget draft would have been like.

Difficult choice. I think Return of the Sith. Followed by The Empire strikes back.
I don't know why people think the prequels are crap. I mean they're not Oscar material, but neither were the Original trilogy. I can't stand Return of the Jedi, it's the worst movie of them all.

Empire gets my vote. But as far as the first trilogy is concerned, I don't understand why everyone worships a new hope and craps on Jedi. Jedi was a cooler story, a better written and conceived film, and looked a whole lot better. That's just my opinion, but I'm sure you'd agree there's some cringeworthy acting moments in a new hope.

Overall, though, I'd say any film from the first trilogy is better than any film from the second.
