I have much over 100 books (at least a few hundred, honestly), and I also cycle through a lot of library books.
Reading is one of my top hobbies

If you count digital, physical, and manga - I'd say well over 100.
Sometime around 500-1000+.

If it's 'just physical' (no manga) - I'd say closer to 100.

I have so many books and I read so fast (752 words per minute is my normal, non speed reading speed), that I'm forbbiden from buying more books.

Well, to say it mathematically it's >>100.
I won't count them all now since it's after 1am here but let's just say I'm a passionate reader.

over a hundred... I'd really hate to count them. if you hadn't worked out from the number I have I read ALOT.
This, though not all are good.

Got about 40 and a bit in Terry Pratchett books alone, I reckon.

I have more than a hundred RPG books alone. On the shelf next to my bed, something like 60 paperbacks. I have 55 items on my Kindle, some are repeats, and a couple of crates full of misc books.

Over 100 even if you discount RPG titles and ebooks.

My fellow escapists, I know many of you are avid readers, and am wondering how many books do you own? I have two full bookshelves and most people think I'm crazy for buying more. Just want to know what other people have.

Edit: Something's wrong with the poll, it won't display all the options. Not sure why. I've tried to edit it but it won't work.
I have three shelves full of random crap like "Joseph" by Mervyn Jones, Frank Herbert, Hannu Rajamieni, Dmitry Glukhovsky, Frank Herbert, Charles Stross, Phillip K Dick, Daniel Keyes, Derek Landy, A christian bible, a catholic bible, the Srimad Bhagavatim and all sorts of assorted crap. Tom clancy, SD Perry, Rachel Caine, Jim Butcher, First Aid manuals, Autobiographies of comedians and "Live Sound Mixing" by Fry R Duncan.

Just to make sure, a book is one of those primitive things with the paper covered in words and/or pictures that you have to flip through to read, right? I have, like, 2.

RPG books? like pen and paper, or those choose your own adventure books?
I used to own all the sonic the hedgehog ones of those.
So good, so much fun and a little bit like "baby's first rpg".

What a sad unimaginative existence you must be leading.
I suggest you read more. It's something tv and games can not give you.

Most definitely +100. If you count my Kindle, then over 175. This includes only "book" books, not graphic novels or magazines. Before anyone asks, I've read at least 160 of them. Working through War and Peace when I'm really bored. If you take apart my collections, (at least 12 Mickey Spillane novels, and HP Lovecraft definitive collections, which total to over 100 just by themselves), I have about 300.

Technicalities, so take whichever answer you like.

I never said that I didn't read. I just don't read books. I read things on my computer, instead. I have serious attention problems with anything that doesn't light up.

That being said, reading just doesn't really do it for me. I find the experience of television and games much more interesting and easier to immerse myself in. I do not lead a sad and unimaginative existence, and I feel insulted by your statement.

Why? because you're just another one of those people (as is becoming increasingly common sadly) that doesn't read books?
I love videogames alot, but really, they're ruining the chances that someone wil pick up a book and get lost in that.
A good book can be so much more satisfying than a game or film.

I see what you're saying, but, as I said before, books don't really do it for me. They never have, even before I started with games. I find it so much easier to get lost in the world of a video game, and I find that it's more satisfying to play a game than read a book because, if only for a few minutes, I am in a different world, instead of looking at one through a screen made of words. I control what happens, even if I don't control it 100% of the time, while I can't do anything like that with a book. I can only read what the author wrote. I can't decide that the protagonist runs around in circles for 10 minutes and have it actually happen in the story.

As for the "sad and unimaginative" part, you could have put something to the tune of "I think you should read more. I think books are much more satisfying than video games", instead of assuming things about my life. What you said came across as rude and offensive, not to mention that it seemed like you were looking down upon me, even if that's not what you intended. Your suggestion that I should read more books wasn't a problem at all. It was mostly just the inclusion of the words "sad and unimaginative".

Nope. Done PnP zombie games using D20 Modern and Adventure! before, though.

I am not that much of a reader, but I honestly have no idea. I know I have enough to not be a total intellectual cretin, but the ones that I may actually care about are far fewer than the ones I don't care about, like purchased for school or something.

If we're counting the whole house... 6 full bookcases and a bunch of books lying around the house.
