I am sure most of you have or have heard of the game Minecraft. For those of you who haven't, it is a sandbox game that involves creating various tools in order to create a home, which in many cases is used to protect you from zombies, and various other creatures. So, for those of you who have played the game, what is your preferred strategy? I tend to play on peaceful the first day in order to collect a ton of resources, then on the next I build a proper home and make a mining tunnel within it. What is your strategy?

Hit tree. Build Crafting Table. Craft pickaxe. Then I mine, and mine, and mine.

Although in all seriousness I go looking for some pre-existing caves to save me the trouble of digging everything myself. It saves a lot of time and gets you to the goodies right away.

I make a cave and turn it into a home, like a dwarf. Wood is too valuable to waste on houses when you spend all your time underground.

Generally I build my first safehouse by carving out a cliff face near spawn, and then once I get some more materials I build another, more creative sanctuary floating above spawn, to ensure no visitors come a-courtin' at night.

I find the highest mountain in the area and build a house suspended in the air that way I can look over the land for anything interesting.

Not that bad of an idea. Might use it in the future. :p

I was lucky to spawn right next to a cave in my most recent world. I built a house next to it and mined most of my diamonds, coal and metal from that one mine. Good times.

I found a tall tree, and turn it into my home, really high up. Then go find iron. Get a ton of wood for ladders up to it. with the iron, burn down the trees around the house so no monsters can get up. Then, destroy the ladders, and make a water elevator, then mine as I need to find stuff.

Find a mountain, build in it, and connect the two houses via minecart. Usually I like the mountain home to be near a cave.

I avoid the game like the plague because I know it will consume all my time and my soul.
Actually, I find myself playing it once every 2-3 weeks for a few hours. So maybe it wouldn't consume you life.

Find a deposit of coal then mine it out. Then build my house out of the remains and try to mine down to see if I can find a cave system.

It has this bizarre paradox about it at it's current stage: There's too much to do in it, but not enough.

I personally want to see an expansion of ores and gems, as well as furniture and more flora. It's likely because of my more potent love of Dwarf Fortress.

I generally find a suitable natural mine then build my house over it. However it gets quite annoying when I build my house into cliff faces because of this. I walk outside for a quick stroll and suddenly a creeper drops in behind me and takes off the side of my building.

I built my house on a pillar of rock, wider at the top. I mined a well doored-off stairway inside the rock to get to the house I built on top. I mined a second stairway into the main chamber that I've been slowly expanding into the rock, and that is my mine.

A house on a hollow pillar of rock, that I'm mining down into. Works perfectly.

if its a game where I'm just building, then its peaceful mode all the way, no worries about where I build. If its a survival, I usually pick a cliff-side to dig into, create an entrance roof so monsters cant drop in, and dig down to ground level to make a secondary entrance. After that I pick out nearby large mountains and use them as a basis for where my mines will be and ALWAYS leave indicators of some kind as to where my base is, signs are especially good for this.

I dig into a cliffside, then slowly expand upon that house, as well as the mine I place in the basement area. Then I get scared of the zombie infested parts of the mine and stop playing. Then I make a new world. Rinse and repeat.

I almost always play on peaceful, and start off in a natural cavern system (That always goes on FOREVERRRR ugh), and then I build an ugly little house near the mine and usually end up haxx0ring some unlimited TNT and diamonds and whatnot into my save so I can do something cool. :>

Technically, I have no "house". I've just been mining on Peaceful, building my resources. I cleared the entire top and middle of a cliff, and am planning a gigantic city-castle, mostly from stone (not Cobblestone!), wool and cobblestone for texture.

It's big project, but dayum will it look awesome. I already built these huge stone steps that lead up the beach, through my tunnel and up again to the mountain-plane. Once I'm done I'll extend it outwards, with towers and so forth, until my fortress covers the whole area of seafront.

And my beacon tower of course. My mining complex is so big, it takes 7 minutes just to walk from the sea level through every tunnel, and it's all 4 across 2 high.... I like Minecraft...
