The Event said:
I would make all the drowning people complete a questionnaire so that I could establish which of them was of the greatest value.

I would ask for their age and details of their medical history so that I could judge who would have the longest life expectancy.
I would need to know their educational qualifications and their employment history so that I could judge who would be most likely to make a great contribution to humanity such as discovering a cure for cancer.
I would need details of the drowning person's family and friends to see if there are more people who would be upset over their death than there would be over the death of my parent.
A criminal record background check would of course be required.

Once all this information was provided I would calculate a value score for each drowning person. I would then calculate my own value score. Next would be a risk assessment to work out my chances of surviving the rescue attempt as if my value score was greater than that of the highest scoring drowning person, there is a potential loss to the world if i were to die in the rescue attempt.

FInally if the calculations showed it to be worthwhile I would attempt to save the most valuable person.

Or....
I might just save my mum because she means a hell of a lot more to me than any stranger does.
Pretty much sums up all these "morality" threads. People should just roll dice for this. I'm tempted to make my "own" morality situation.

Well both my parents can swim and my father is a good swimmer could help my mother so in theory I could save my mother and my father could save the stranger who could in turn save the cat.

In reality, all I can say is that I would let the stranger die because for all I know he could be the purple-shirted eye stabber.

Alright, is this some kind of new "marry, fuck, kill" thing? Uh, marry my dad, fuck the stranger, and kill my mother.

Oh, it's not like that? Fine, save my dad.

I tie a rope made by taping my pets together to shore and throw the other end to the stranger then go save my parents.

Seriously though seems like the only reason to save the stranger if it's your choice is to prove to the world that you're just that great

Man, fuck that stranger. My dad is the best person in the world, and despite my mum's many, many, many, many, many, many, many flaws, criticisms of me, irritating behaviour, borderline alcoholism... wait, what was I talking about?

I adore my parents, they are wonderful people, and I don't care how perfect that stranger is, I'm not saving them.

Why does my cat also need to be drowning? The hell was my family doing near a whirlpool with my cat? And do they know the stranger? The latter is kind of important, because I foresee my mum berating me for leaving them to die.
