If its against the current government, I'm there - not sure how much use I'd be, but I'd be there.

If its instigated by the current government, fuck off Cameron - your not getting a Falklands.

At my age of 17, the draft takes me in a year, university or not. Unless I get that super smart-ass program that's hard to get, and once you are done with Uni (which the army pays for) you go serve anyways. Least you serve according to your profession.

Wait, it's taken thousands of civilian lives on my side of the border? So, if I understand this correctly, there are people running around shooting my neighbors up?

That really doesn't leave me with much choice but to do something to defend my own home, does it?

Sweden is at war? Impossible, we're "neutral".

Plan A, try to convince that I would do great as an technician / science assistance.

Plan B, hide in the forest, grow my own crops. Any part of north Sweden should do, 99% forest, 0,001% man and rest is nothingness.

Who would want to start a war with Sweden?

I would probably sign up when i turned 18, I mean if Sweden is attacked we need all the soldiers we can get. Plus i get to play with Swedish military equipment! That shit is advanced.

PS. I would spread love and tolerance among my brothers in arms.
Russia! :p

And yes, if as the title claims war came to Sweden, and it wasn't some kind of EU-induced over-seas idea I'd join up asap.

Sadly the swedish military is not very well equipped, trust someone who's been in the military and seen what it has capacity for. Sure, we got some decent gear for the few who go on international missions, but when it comes to the army that's supposed to be able to stop an invasion? Not a chance. The gear is old, outdated and often worn out. Our computer systems aren't up to the task of coordinating our forces, our air force is pretty much gone, we've sold a lot of our artillery and we don't have enough navy to defend against a determined enemy coming across the baltic sea. We do have good tanks, but they're piloted by people without any experience whatsoever outside basic training. So no, the swedish armed forces aren't much of a threat to anyone.

Basically the plan is for us to slow down the enemy (often Russia, sorry guys, but that's how it is) as they invade over the sea and from the north, buying time for our allies to start shipping in resources and materiel from the south. The stopping line is in the middle of Sweden, just a few miles from where I live. I know my way around here and I'm decent with a rifle.

Even if I couldn't join and get sent out into the field in time I'd just pick up one or two hunting rifles from my granddad's and climb a mountain and start sniping.

estonia wouldnt have a chance unless Latvia and Lithuania help us out but... I dont really have anything to live for and this would sort of be a chance to do something both interesting and meaningful.
Yea this. Baltic armed forces each on their own are quite week, United on the other hand... still weak.
Besides, who would attack 3 ex-soviet countrys anyway?

Probobly yea, I rather fight than learn Russian!(supposing that they are he ones who attack.)
Even though this is probably just paranoia some of us have but lets just say we think Russia aint too happy that you call us EX-soviet countrys not Soviet countries.
Also i am hurt that you call us weak... We could probably survive a few minutes.

Fuck that. My country doesn't do what I want so why should I do what it wants? (Britfag)
Well, that's fair enough.

If this hypothetical war was in six years, I'd already be in because I'm joining the Royal Marines in six years. I'm not patriotic by any means, but I have my own reasons.

I would never enlist, and would refuse to serve if drafted. End of story.

I would, however, be more than willing to defend my home from any troops that are in the area. You want to attack America? We have guns behind every door and people willing to use them. Even if the army isn't there to defend, we can certainly hold you off until they get there, if only by outnumbering you.

(I oppose the hierarchical command structure of organized armies, personally. I also oppose the "sense of duty" and the "follow your orders no matter what" bits. I'm a pacifist in most cases, but if I have to fight, it's going to be on MY terms, for MY reasons.)

Overseas? Hell no.

In my country? Hell yes. I'm a pretty good shot, and could probably hit someone in the head from about 300 yards away if I needed to, but I'd aim center mass, biggest target, and realistically, if you shoot someone in the gut, they're not terribly likely to continue being a pest. I've got three guns that pretty much cover long, medium, and short ranges, with my longest range probably able to hit 600 or so yards, and my medium range hitting 300 yards and closer reliably, with my short being 50 yards or shorter.

But yeah. It's my country. If you want to invade it, I'm going to make you fight for every inch of it unless it's more advantageous for me to let you take land someone unimportant. Besides, we have more guns than people in the US. Although I'd like to see how many of pacifists remain so if it ever does happen. And people that are against guns, and so forth and so on. You guys get the point.

I'm ready though. I got my AR-15 and can reload my own ammo, and have plenty to last a while. And no, I'm not crazy, I just like to go to the range and put holes in cardboard. Relax people, jeez.

Though my reckoning is if someone declared on the UK or its allies and it escalates so far as to kill thousands of civilians then chances are the government would simply launch the nukes and kill a couple million more of them in a quest to show we?re serious.
If both countries have nukes, in theory, they may still have an all-out conventional war.
Quite possibly yes but as Mr Yhatzee once said there's little point in having regular soldiers who get beaten up by Super Soldiers and Super Soldier programmes are flawed because nukes are so much more effective.

I think that if it ever got to the point where a full scale invasion of the UK or any other major country occurred then chances are someone would get twitchy, fire off one and then everyone else would join in on it.

Assuming that doesn't occur i would maintain my choice to serve out my position within the Air Force Engineering Corp or MOD Research.

My mate Sam however, whose main skill is as a keen drummer, will likely be enlisted to play songs for the troops while they fight their way across the barren desert/tundra/jungle/urban area.

I live in Iceland. We don't HAVE an army, so I guess that means I default to "No".

Besides, no war here would take thousands of lives, they'd just bring warships into the harbors and we'd go all white flag.
Nice one! World would be a much better places with more Icelands

(Memo to self
Need to visit island and taking pictures of the habors, just in case)

Okay, back on topic.

First thought:
Voiceover: "Your country is at war, what are you going to do?"
Me: "Oh no, not again."

Second thought:
Voiceover: "Your country is at war, what are you going to do?"
Me: "Thank god, I'm not even allowed to serve my country bearing arms. Compulsory community service anyone?"

it would honestly depend on alot of things.

i'm assuming fighting on the homefront..

it would depend on the "force" that the opposing enemy is showing, if they have literally millions coming at us in swarms..

FUCK THAT. defecting to canada like a boss.

but if it's somewhat like a zombie thing, then i'm holin up with my loved ones and fighting to the last fucking bit, no zombie is gonna take me down without getting their mutilated junk tossed, i'd have a pipe bomb strapped to my chest as a last second hurrah

Someone decided to invade Canada? Well I won't enlist because physical defects pretty much stop me from being useful in a standard military unit (strenuous physical activity can cause me to become paralyzed for about 24hours...)but I'm more than likely going to fight as part of a civilian guerilla unit.

No, I would not enlist.

Norway is a small country, with a population of about 4.8million.
We're not going to be able to stand against an enemy for very long.

Unless it's a small nation that is attacking us, or we can rely on the help of NATO.
Then I would enlist in a heartbeat.

If not, then I'd join La Resistance and fight the enemy from the shadows.
