(Anonymous is a group of people who band together (mostly online) on several occasions to stand for free speech and/or fight against decisions they believe were incorrect e.g. the Iranian election in 2009. The group has been tied to several illegal website hackings (they hacked the U.S. Copyright office recently). What do you think of Anonymous as a group? As far as I can tell, they don't believe in any one type of government, but do they seem like anarchists?

I think of them as a combination of Internet terrorists and Batman-esque vigilantes. I.E. I see them as both polar ends of the scale. Which means I don't feel like Crippy the Hypocritical Hippo when I am for or against their work.

Sometimes I support their actions, and other times I do not. Depends on what they are trying to accomplish.

Dude, where are the "Meh" or "Whatever" poll options?
It's interesting to post a response complaining about the lack of a non-response in the poll.

OT: I don't condone terrorism in any form, but I occasionally agree with their message.

You seem to have confused Anon and "moralfags".

Wikipedia says they're all the same group, that's what I went off of (and posts from The Escapist). I see the distinction now though, lol
"Moralfags are *chan posters: newfags, who want to harness the power of Anonymous towards good works in place of lulz and the continuous accumulation of Japanese pornography."

This. Anonymous is a very diverse group, and its usually these people who make Anonymous seem so amazing. Anonymous is a very dangerous group, that promotes racism, sexism, homophobia and whatever else is offensive. To quote a certain "John" fellow in a message to Anon: "You are everything bad in the world."

He's quite right.

On the other hand the "moralfags" (everyone in anonymous is denoted by ~'fag') are the ones who are on 4chan or other places where Anon lives to harness the power of the mob to do crazy things, or good things.

A group with good intentions and ideals, but they sometimes take it too far.

But for a group that is so loosely united, has no actual rules, and no true leader, they are surprisingly tame. You would expect a bunch of energetic 17-25 year olds that can basically do whatever they want on the internet to be completely out of control, and sometimes they are, but for the most part, it's either absurd, ridiculous, comedic speech and memes, mostly harmless internet pranks, and a few actual well managed political and social movements. I think there is great value to be found in something like this.

What I find most fascinating about 4Chan, anonymous, ect. is how widespread their culture and sort of collective conscious is. I think it goes to show that culture and ideas have far more influence then you would expect, and I think there is much potential for good here. Imagine if the general attitude of anonymous evolved more into a more mature, responsible one, while still retaining the good values they have.

Umm.. meh. I think that what they do is funny, but I don't support or condone it. Kinda like Boris Johnson. I know that the delightful idiot is there, and it's humorous. Anonymous hasn't ever done anything that has affected me so I don't mind them.

I guess that applies to most of us, though sometimes I think we just don't see their efforts that might've resulted in copyrighted music staying on Youtube. Do you think Anonymous will always be just that, or will they ever stand for something bigger (e.g. a form of government)?

A collection of over weight/under weight virgins who live with their parents and have far too much time on their hands.
