I wanted to know what you guys think about downloading things when the government doesn't approve.

Anyway I do not use torrents as they are way too slow but I never ever buy something without knowing its worth first.

My opinion is that downloading is not stealing at all. You are not taking something, only walking up to it and making a copy of it. Nothing is taken from those who produce it.

People on here tend to be right assholes about this subject. "Pirate are scum, they are the lowest life on earth, they should be shot" Just general stupidity and over blowing something they do not like in an effort to make themselves feel superior. To hear them talk of it you would think piracy is worse than raping a child.
Then, just to prove they are total shit, sometimes you will see the exact same person admitting they downloading mp3s or movies and borrowing games from friends. But for some reason that is different in their mind.

Edit: Just to clarify for some reason they find game piracy to be far worse than anything else. So mp3s and movies are sometimes okay but games never.

Games are expensive. And what if you pay for a game and it turns out to be total shit?

I use my cloning device to copy games, that doesn't count because I buy the game myself...

and sell it at twice the cost.

Nothing is taken, but the ones who produced it aren't getting their money either. In a way you stealing their money by not paying up for a product.

Paint it as you want, it's a sort of crime. Not a major one, unless you selling and making a profit out of it.

See I'd say that you are in fact taking the potential earnings from someone, as if there was no way of pirating a certain item you may have brought it legally and you are therefore actually stealing profit.

I myself have no problem with people who pirate its just those who try and justify it, you are stealing and it is illegal, you could really be hurting someone's cash flow out there, I myself have no morals however so its not a problem for me.

Nothing is taken, but the ones who produced it aren't getting their money either. In a way you stealing their money by not paying up for a product.

Making a profit out of illegal downloading is a pure dick move. But what if you can't get some things at the store? What if it's no longer being sold, or is a foreign product? Sometimes if you want something, illegal downloading is your only option.

Exactly or for PC gamers is not compatible with your hardware, I have had numerous games that on paper I could play but would not run decently on my PC. Or may be broken and require numerous patches which have not been released yet.
When the government took away the right of return they took away the trust. It did not stop people from pirating, it just made them less willing to put money up front for something that may suck.

I once made the stupid, stupid mistake of paying for Fable: TLC. It didn't work on my PC. Or my friend's PC. Or my other friend's PC.

I am too stupid to figure out how to use them and I am not confident in my virus protection. I have avg free by the way.
