I used to be strictly carnivorous. Vegetables were a weird thing in my life, and I didn't want any part of them. However, after losing 72lbs and discovering the necessity of complex carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables - I've found that my body, personally, enjoys the lighter side of eating. My diet during the week is mainly organic vegan/light vegetarianism. I feel lighter, healthier, and just better. My omnivorous husband gives me a hard time about it though, calls me a hippie; then again he grew up on a cattle ranch in Montana. Disassociation with their cows as living things, and coming to know them as just 'product', was essential for living out there. Well, essential if you wanted to not cry everyday. Call me weak, but it's the 'pain of the product' that gets me. The factories, the small cages, no access to the outdoors, the unnecessary filth. It's just too much.
I am not against people eating meat. Everyone I know eats meat, we go out to eat together, everyone gets along and I don't ever hassle them about it. People are still weary of me though. Think I'm going to start throwing red paint on everything and start chanting about Gaia while gyrating. I'm not, it's okay. Enjoy your meal.
