The puzzles in Portal were better, and I loved the bonus options to do maps with extra difficulty.
Portal 2 had a great story, great characters, and for it's length great pacing so it's hard to choose between them.

Portal was brilliant and a more difficult game, but in a good challenging way not a cheap way.
Portal 2 was a really good game and a lot more fun and a little lighter on the challenge, in my opinion. Plus it has really fun co-op, (fun=griefing your partner, or getting griefed by your partner).
I'm going to put it as a draw. Their both great games.

I enjoyed the puzzles in Portal 1 alot more but Portal 2 was easily the funniest game i've ever played.
Hard to tell; I'd say that they're equally good in different ways. The first game was like the middle part of "2001: A Space Odyssey" with you playing Dave and GlaDOS playing HAL. I was only marginally funny, but it was gut-wrenchingly intense especially at the finale and stood up on its own as a serious sci-fi story.
Portal 2 is more like a spoof: a very well-done spoof, but a spoof nonetheless. Comparing it to the first game is almost like comparing "Star Wars" to "Spaceballs." As a serious sci-fi, it's just not as good, but from where I stand there has almost never been a game, ever, that has been funnier.

Portal had better gameplay, partly aided by the whole "first time" thing.

Loved them both, first was more original obviously, and more interesting in some ways. But the second did feel fuller and improved. So if I had to say which I enjoyed more, probably Portal 2 by a little bit.
Plus with the addition of the co-op there's quite a lot more to Portal 2, I loved the way those puzzles worked out.

Didn't we already have this thread last week? Gonna say Portal 1 AGAIN, though. Portal 2 just felt like it was trying too hard to impress me. "Look at this! See how WACKY our characters are? Look at all the moving parts in our levels! The amount of money we spent on this game was enormous!"
All Im going to say is there is no "comaprison" one is not better than the other they both compliemnt each other perfectly

Well, the problem with running a comparison is that the two evolved in different ways from the same people.Eofofo said:

-Limited amount of cash
-short game made for the Orange Box
PORTAL 2
-Large team
-Bigger budget
-full-length game
Now granted, I love Portal 2. They've taken my perception of that world and made it out of explodium and unobtanium. It's cool! However, I don't think you should be holding up flags on which is better.
