I got mine because I had recently gotten into pc gaming, and my 6 year old computer couldn't even handle Gmod. So I got this one basically just for gaming.

I do need to change the power supply though as it's not very good, and I need more juice if I'm going to change the GFX card.
POW! [http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp] Have a look there, it'll tell you what wattage you're using. I average at about 470W now, and mine is a basic 500W PSU, I'm buying the Corsair HX-650 soon.

As I said, I don't want flaming here. I'm not a fan of Macs, but I do understand that they have their pros and cons just like every other computer. If you're happy with it, and it does all you want it to, good.

THAT'S what I like to see! Very nice system you have there, nice explainations on why those parts too. How does the i7 handle in terms of heat while gaming? I know with my E8500 @4.10Ghz i'm only pushing 50c at load.
Ta, heat is fine, I haven't monitored it in gaming for a while but I just ran an 8 thread 8k FFT prime95 test and the hottest core got to 52c (stock speeds), I doubt it would reach that in gaming though as thats 100% usage number crunching on 8 logical processors.
GPU seems to plateau at about 72c in furmark.

Mine was given by a family friend, I have no idea about the model just thats its Dell. Had it for years and now it randomly turns itself on and off, unless I unplug it. So I just use my laptop now.

I'll take that into consideration when I'm getting my next build. The GPU temps seem a little high though, but then again, can't expect much from stock coolers. My 4850 loads at under 50c most of the time, but it started out loading at 80c. All I did for that is clean of the original paste, and used OCZ Freeze, temps instantly lowered.

I've built my own PC's since I first bought my own, Athlon XP 1700+, with amazing GeForce 4200, and 256 megs of ram, which I later updated to a whopping 512!

Right now I've got:
Processor: Intel Q9300, quadcore
GPU: GeForce 8800, 614mb. Old one was a 512 model, but it died, so I bought my roommate's.
RAM: 4 gigs
Mobo: I had a P5K, but it died, so now I've got a P5QLD.

It's two years old, but no real reason to upgrade, as it's still performs better than consoles, and most games are made for consoles, sadly enough.

Building the PC can be fun or frustrating, depending pretty much entirely on the case you've got, and whether or not your heat sink is connected to the motherboard with some goddamn flimsy-ass plastic niblets, that come off if you look at them the wrong way, but I digress.
I'd encourage people to build their own, all of my mates build their computers themselves, and some of them aren't really tech savvy at all. It comes a lot cheaper, you gain an understanding of the actual machine, I've never heard of anyone actually breaking the equipment, and you'll appreciate the thing more, once you YOURSELF have put it together.

I built my own a year and a half ago and it took some time. I did a lot of research, checked a lot of benchmarks, manufacturers, prices etc. and I must have changed the configuration a couple of times before I was satisfied with my final build. The good thing is while I was checking all that stuff prices went down rapidly for some reason. I wanted to build a PC that can play all games on highest settings but also to be future proof for at least 3 years. I think I did a good job. My budget was 700e at the time. With a limited budget I was able to do just what I wanted. Bought parts from various stores where it was cheaper or where they offered discounts. I didn't have any problems with it so far.

Case: NZXT Tempest
MB: P5Q Pro
CPU: Q6600 OC to 3.2Ghz with DuOrb cooler
GFX: ASUS ATI HD4850 1Gb
RAM: 4Gb DDR2 800mhz Kingston
HDD: Hitachi 500Gb
PSU: OCZ 600W
Pioneer DVD R/W

A shitty Packard Bell laptop, Core 2 Duo T5250, 4 GBs 800mhz RAM, Geforce 8600GS (the graphics card can overclock a little tho, 15% GPU max, but I can push the VRAM to like 30%, tho, I need better cooling for it to last more than 15 mins).

Was given to me.

Edit: It's a 17 incher and got dual HDD bays (1 80 gig SSD + 7.2k 320 gig seagate 11ms).
