Single Player. Esp. since multiplayer now a days means playing with a bunch of jerks I don't know.

Single player. I'm a sucker for immersion, and it's hard to get immersed in Gears of War while you and your brother keep shooting each other.

Not that that isn't fun, too..

Really depends on the game. its a shame that a lot of people who have mic are either annoying kids or adults (I'm using that term sparingly) who should really know better. Some games work great for multiplayer (such as TF2) whilst others work a lot better for singleplayer (such as Half Life 2)

If we're talking about a great multiplayer experience versus a great single player experience.. I have to go with the single player just for consistency. A great single player game will always be a great single player game.. but if you look at the multiplayer experience, it always relies on the people that you play with and this isn't a perfect world; therefore that isn't always going to mean quality.
I agree with this.

i like single player since i don't have to deal with people but multiplayer has the perks of getting someone who knows exactly what theyre doing

i play guild wars (currently on hiatus) and my first character on there played through a large majority of the factions campaign with just a party of henchmen and i only played with other people if i needed to

To me, multiplayer is only as good as the people that you play with. If it's my with friends, then I like multiplayer. However, since we all have busy lives, my vote goes to singleplayer, because I can have a great experience by myself.

I find it hard to believe that more people prefer single player in this day and age. I guess this is a mostly RPG-oriented crowd, judging by the genre polls that appear every week.

I definitely prefer multiplayer, as I just get more enjoyment out of stomping noobs than I do following a story. That's not to say I don't love some single-player games, Mass Effect for example.

It can depend on your skill level I think.

I love COD4 online but sometimes I get so badly whooped in it that I just have to switch to the campaign and shoot some dumb AI baddies to relax...

Fallout 3 is also a great game to relax your mind. Hit a button to freeze time, pick your shot and let the game do the work :)

If I want to listen to a bunch of raving lunatics from which all say that they have screwed my mother (from which baffles me because usually people would want to hide their stuff when she's around) I'll go to a gamer forum and shout in their god awful "Language" saying.. "111<3 0/\/\G U G@!z P( !5 13 !!!!", also that toppled with my god awful Internet, you have a pretty simple choice.

(it's single player FYI :p (But Left 4 Dead and Team fortress 2 let me ignore those details))

*EDIT*

just read the above comment and I'd like to add that skill makes little detail in it, for example I'm the worst TF2 Spy, there is, mainly because I stare at them wide eyed with a bloody knife in my hand, while disguised as them...(And I Adore Team fortress 2) , BUT when the Internet is decent, I'm a kick ass zombie killer, always getting the most infected kills and special infected kills and most damage to tank, (I think you get the picture)

Single player. These games that keep forcing co-op onto me are such a pain. Sometimes I don't have people who own the game, or they can't play at the time, and I don't want to play with some random person that will die and steal all my items while going, "lololol gg nub, u r teh sux [insert sexual insults here]". I put that same argument towards multiplayer.

Yet, I feel differently towards MMOs...

I'm split in between both, while I always wish for BOTH a good single-player and multiplayer experience, I want the game to be a good experience in either one so that it's replay value is higher and it will make want to come back and replay the game again from time to time. For example, games like Halo 3 and CoD4 have a stronger multiplayer component than single-player, but the campaign is still excellent for both. However for single-player only game slike Oblivion and KOTOR II, they are such excellent games that they can stand the test of time with just a single-player component, but multiplayer is what really keeps a game fun to play for years to come.

Either way, I value both single and multi equally.
