A proper evil overlord doesn't pick favorites.

I will have an army/swarm/legion of each, and then pick the most appropriate one for each situation. ^,^

The Adeptus Custodes. End of argument.

See, your average 40K Space Marine is like unto a god when compared to a normal man. A Space Marine from the Grey Knights chapter is like this to other Space Marines. And the Adeptus Custodes are this to Grey Knights.

I will only have one hundred.

I will only need one hundred.

They are the perfect killing machine, in the very finest gear that the Imperium can create, charged with protecting the God-Emperor of All Mankind. They are unbreakable. They will fight until their guns run dry, and then the enemy can start to get really nervous. Their minds burn with the power of the Warp, for they are psychic warriors too, and mighty with it. They have powers and power armour and can survive in hard vacuum. No time period necessary. They. Will. Survive. And in order for them to guard me... I will have to become one as well.

I will only have one hundred.

I will only need one hundred.

I chose monsters, as my ideal army has always been and will always be Shoggoths.

They're big, they're designed to be mindless servants who will do anything, they can spontaneously form appendages and makeshift weapons from their bodies, they're practically invincible, they're acidic to the touch, and they're a definite menace. One Shoggoth could easily take down an entire state before it would even notice that people were trying to fight back against it. With an army of them...

You two win forever.

It's humans for me. Robots are too dull and the others I'm not familiar enough with their motivations or would be just too expensive capture, train, and maintain. Humans are easy to find, I could potentially recruit an empress from the ranks and I need to do to keep them happy is too follow my good ol' friend Colin Moriarty's advice: keep 'em knee-deep in booze, p**n, and caps. Or whatever monetary unit we trade with. Coins are my favorite but elf ears, dwarf beards, and hobbit toes all work just as well.

Whichever is most likely to avoid the two critical weaknesses of Evil Minions/Armies/Legions: being supremely incompetent XP-fodder and turning on me, the Evil Overlady (nah, doesn't really have the right ring, does it? :p).

-Zombies are generally incompetent and incapable of following orders at all, let alone competently.

- Beings of shadow have this thing where The Bright Light of Heroes (TM) repels/redeems them (also an issue with irresistible urges towards betrayal on occasion).

- Demons, likewise (substitute 'Holy' for 'Bright' as appropriate).

- Humans lack the supernatural strengths of the other choices, and are more likely to give into moral arguments that the other beings of Pure Evil (also TM).

- Robots are often competent, but have a tendency towards being hacked/deactivated.

- Monsters again tend to fail the test of 'comprehend/follow orders'.

- Aliens then seem to be the winner by default (though the variety implied makes a judgement tricky). They can often follow orders, may well not respond to human-based morality appeals and, not being innately evil, also avoid problems of sudden but inevitable betrayal. On occasion, they're even competent and better at stuff than humans!

Well, that looks very Chaos-y as well, good sir... *raises eye-brow*
I like Space Marines, period. My preference is not restricted by matters of affiliation.
Just finished reading the second novel in the new Night Lords trilogy, and I'm currently considering erecting a devotional shrine to the author in my apartment. It's that good.
So yeah, right now there's little room in my head for the forces of the Imperium.

By the way, I've never understood what people find so interesting about the Black Templars. Every chapter is a brotherhood of knights anyway, so I don't see what's so fascinating about these guys in particular... they're almost as vanilla as the Ultrasmurfs, if you ask me.
Besides, they're Second Founding. Those posers got nothing on the 18 legions. :p

I'd just pick batman.

No one beats batman.
Not sure if you're aware of this, but these guys' daddy was basically Batman, just with a darker set of morals.

I don't know, depends on what my lab turns out. So a mix of monsters and robots, with a little bit of zombies thrown in. Oh yes, and I may need some human assistants to help create my little abominations.

I would likley use a combination of all of the above. Each have their strengths and weaknesses. Also, having a more diverse army would mean I would also know about the weaknesses that any other armies would have, and those would be weaknesses I would be able to exploit, while covering my own weaknesses with varying units.

Humans controlling robots from a central hub. You get the dispensabilty of mass produced robots and their strength and abilities. The guiding hand of humans just cause i dont want some robot revolution or virus to take them down. Plus who wouldnt wanna work as controller for a robot warrior so id be doin my minons a favor too.

I like the idea of a group of Co-Dragons, like Sebastian Shaw has in First Class, 3-4 cool and unique individuals with badass skills or powers. It more interesting that a group of faceless goons.

Depends on my mood and on what's available.

Zombies, robots, demons and beings of darkness are prefered because they don't have any conscience that could get in the way.

I don't count cyborgs among robots though.

Humans have too mch of a conscience to be usefull for anything more than slavery, but that requires me to have minions first to crack the whips on them. They're definitely not prefered.

Aliens are often plagued by the same problematic conscience that humans have.
Well, the sentient ones at least.
Some of them could be used as pets and guard dogs though...
Space-sharks with lasers attached to their heads anyone?

Prefered types:

Robots are probably the easiest to acquire of all the prefered minions, so I'd like them to be the bulk of my force.

Zombies, of the virus type are good for taking over other planets cheaply, if I have a virus ready.
They will attack anyone organic, including myself (if I haven't replaced this meatbag body yet), so they're only good for infecting everyone on the planet, then have the robots kill them all, which will be a lot easier now that they don't have any real strategies anymore.

Zombies of the type created by necromancy however, can be controlled, but they're a lot of work and need constant replacing because their bodies keep decaying.

Demons (and Dark and Evil gods), well, they're nice to have on my side, but we all have our own agendas, so their loyalty is often questionable, unless they're created by myself of course, but each one has to be made by hand (and magic) and they can't be mass produced.
It would be interesting to create some demons whose bodies produce an spread the earlier mentioned zombie virus...

Beings of Darkness, well, they require constant darkness, so they can't be used everywhere at all times. But they may be useful to have around in some dark tunnels and labyrinths, but other things that won't run away when you shine a flashlight at them will be needed as well.
Question; your plans all seem to involve annihilation, what are you going to do once everything is dead?

I was at first fairly certain that "Monsters" would be my choice, seeing as dragons apparantly make great pets, but I decided against it and went with "Demons" instead, because it offers more variety, and balrogs are demons. And balrogs > dragons.

Demon is a pretty vague term though, seeing as it technically applies to any creature of any alignment from a different plane of existence, which is what gives them versatility, which in turn is what makes demons awesome. As minions.

They don't all involve annihilation...
There is also enslavement and causing lots and lots of suffering for generations to come.

In all Honesty, I'd prefer Humanoid Shadows, mostly because of how versatile they could be in the Dark and in the cloak of night.

Plus having my own Shadow act as a weapon would be sooooooooo badass. We could fight together.

Me:"Yo, just you me and my Shadow right now!"
Guy: "alright punk"
*My Shadow comes from out the ground*
Shadow: Hehehehe
Guy: Oh $HIT!!
At first when I read your post I thought you said (M shadows from avenged seven fold comes out of the ground!) gave me a chuckle.

anyways I think I would have a army of cyborg minions. oh by the way OP, my name is Maverick! so are you saying im a robot?

I think I'll go through the list and evaluate why I like/dislike them...

Zombies: Well they won't turn on me since they're mindless and I won't feel bad sending them to pointless deaths... On the other hand being mindless means that they'll suck as guards and need micromanagement. As far as minions go I think these would be the least capable, with humans with guns being more dangerous than them. I'm also worried about how it is I'm controlling them. Mindless hungry undead have some kind of potential for turning on me for food or due to mindless rage.

Beings of Darkness: Ability-wise these seem to be my favorite, they can jump out of seemingly nowhere to kill people. I'm not sure how I'm controlling them though so I'm wary of them. It would suck to have these kinds of creatures betraying you.

Demons: Hmm, they do tend to have an obvious weakness in holy things, which is a down. On the other hand they seem pretty powerful. But then one of my biggest concerns is loyalty and I would not trust demons in the least.

Humans: Not particularly loyal, and they're just too mundane for my tastes.

Robots: This would totally be my choice. Seem quite loyal, and if I've got the technology for robots they can have some pretty awesome equipment I'm sure. I'd also love AIs as minions, as those were mentioned under robots in the OP. I'm not particularly concerned with AIs turning on me, if I have the ability to create one I'm fairly confident I'll be capable of programming limits into it. And if I can have AIs I imagine my guards will be fairly competent.

Monsters: These would be pretty awesome. But some of the bigger ones I just wouldn't trust to remain on my side. I could go vampire or werewolf to help ensure loyalty, but then I have some really obvious weaknesses. People would know too much about the weaknesses of monsters I think.

Aliens: If I want the high technology aspect I would have robots. Also, don't trust them. I like minions completely under my control, and aliens would be worse than humans in this regard. They're likely more powerful than me so if they betray me it's worse than if humans do.
Hehehe my particular plan with controlling the Dark Creatures is to envelop yourself in the Darkness as well without it consuming you. It all depends on your will. If anything they may be like the heartless and flock to the strongest source of Dark Power.

The problem with Robots is that they can betray you too if given a constant growing AI, they might calculate you being a hindrance to their success and being the cold calculating beings they are will feel no remorse to switch out leaders.
