So, Spike put up their GOTY 2011 poll in early November (the URL's above). Have you guys gotten around to voting yet; and if so, which game did you choose?

I went with Portal 2--while all of the games nominated are good, in the strictest sense, what really set Portal 2 apart in my mind was the constant ingenuity on display in its co-op mode, which was the only thing this year for me that felt like a revelation (Course 3, Chamber 8, for example, was one of the greatest levels in the history of video games). The game's dialogue and plotting, as well, were easily the year's best, avoiding the cultural infantilism that plagued 2011's other big releases.

Dynasty Warriors 7 wasn't nominated for "Best Original Score"???

The only thing I voted for was Old World Blues as best DLC, nothing else interests me.

I voted for Peer Review--because it was free, basically.

lol, Spike.

Although as a token representative of those that are in love with Skyrim, I will say that I fully expect it to beaten by MW3, as the Spike awards are one of the biggest jokes in the field, catering to the more "immature" species of man.

EDIT: I have been informed that "Point Click Respawn 3" is not a nominee this year, and it honestly surprises the crap out of me.

Not disagreeing with you about Spike's game awards being silly, but 1) MW3 wasn't even nominated, and 2) it probably wouldn't win if it were, since the type of people that peruse the Internet voting in gaming end-year polls are probably more likely to be Skyrim fans.

Old World Blues was worth every cent for me, and the funny thing is that I actually enjoyed Dead Money slightly more.

Oh, well, that's odd. Hmm. I'll be honest, I never even looked at their nominees. I saw Spike and, perhaps a bit hastily, slapped a "lol, whatevs" sticker on it.

I may actually have to watch this one then. Thanks for the correction, good sir/madam.

I have to wonder why you bothered putting options other than Skyrim and "Didn't vote" on your poll.

I'm not the biggest fan of Spike's GOTY awards; but on the other hand, it's funny so many Internet users revile them, since basically what it amounts to is the gaming community's opportunity to choose for themselves what their GOTY is in a highly-publicized fashion, without critical middlemen. Personally--while critics are still important--I think it's nice one such poll (a popular one) exists.

It's true that effusive praise for Skyrim has been inescapable in the past few weeks, but I'm willing to entertain the possibility that 1) gamers with other tastes have been less vocal, and 2) it seems that way in part because the game was just released.

How the hell do they pick their nominations? I can already see one game that's missing: Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Surely that's not so unpopular that it's insignificant, especially when Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective and Epic Mickey (which was from last year) can get nominated for at least one award...

Edit: Never mind, just found Deus Ex. Still, that's a lot of disparities...

The problem, like I just said, was that the nominations are chosen by a retarded monkey. Still, are they broadcast on the Internet? I want to see just how bad they are...

I don't know--their GOTY nominations could've been far worse (including MW3, for example). As it stands, the five games nominated are basically the most critically-praised on home consoles--even if it would've been nice to see Deus Ex: Human Revolution and/or an indie title like Minecraft get a nod.

Yeah Spike is a huge fat joke, they have Skyrim nominated for GoTY, but not for "Best PC", not for "Best Xbox" and not for "Best PS3". THAT SHOULDN'T EVEN BE POSSIBLE.

AND NOT FOR ORIGINAL SCORE???

[HEADING=1]WTF SPIKE![/HEADING]
It would probably make more sense to have categories for "Best PS3 Exclusive", "Best Wii Exclusive", "Best Xbox 360", "Best Cross-Platform Game", and then overall GOTY. As it stands, the practice of arbitrarily selecting which cross-platform games get nominated in each console's best game category is kind of bizarre.

Oh, I agree.

But that's the thing that worries me about it, kinda, though... as with most things on/involving the internet, there are many things that can happen to ...what word to use here... jostle(?) the legitimacy of these types of awards.

I have no interest in voting because their picks probably aren't based off votes and the winner never makes sense. Also fuck spike TV, they were cool for like a week then they killed anything good about their station.

I voted for Skyward Sword, cause I honestly feel that game deserves to win the most out of all the nominees. It simultaneously evolved the gameplay of the Zelda series, stayed true to the Zelda spirit, and raised the bar for not only the Zelda series but for Nintendo and for games in general. It's my new favorite game of all time, and I highly doubt anything is going to change that for a while.

Personally, as long as Spike does their occasional Star Wars marathons then in my mind they can be forgiven for their other terrible shows.
