Gods, I tell ya!

Nah, but really. It just makes me think they've been here a lot longer than I have.

OT: Anyone who judges people based on postcount should leave this site now and never come back. And I am being completely serious there. I have almost 7000 posts. I also happen to have been a member of this site for well over a year, and happen to post only on topics I'm interested in anyway. I have plenty of other interests, so I most definitely have a life. So anyone judging me on that is an idiot and should go to a different forum. And the same applies to people like Furburt and Hubilub, and also others like Neonbob and TheNamelessGuy. Post count has nothing to do with anything. You can easily post at least thirty or forty posts in an hour, which when you add it up means getting to well over a thousand in less than a month. And those people may still have lives outside that single hour a day on this site. It's as simple as that. Personality is what counts, not posting numbers...
Couldn't agree more. It's all about personality, I mean I have a relatively low count, and yet I've be here longer than Furb, Hub and Nameless...

I've only exceeded 1000 posts on one forum. On that forum, it took me 6 years to acquire 2110 posts. I'd say that roughly 90% of those posts were pointless spam. In spite of that, I probably spammed the least of anyone there since there's only one admin and he hasn't done any moderating in years.

What was the topic again?

The only thing I care about is their post content. Also, if someone posts often (JulianKing93, Sassafras, Furburt, IdealistCommi), then I recognise the name, but will still think they're being a dick if they make a dickish post.

They have high post counts = they visit fairly regularly.

That's it. I don't care how high their post counts are.

What like me?

I don't really pay attention to post counts unless they're brand new here.
The fact you have more than 10,000 posts in less than a year annoys me. I don't know why, it just does.

I bet you're a nice lad (or ladette), but on here I think you need to get out a little.

Forum Gamer poster.

I also suspect their opinions on things will not always be well thought-out, considering such people often post for the sake of posting.

Could care less, and they probably spend to much time here... the smug "I have a high post count so I'm a god" ones piss me off...
Well thankfully none of the high posters are like that.

I just think "Man they really like this website." and then move on to the next post to read.

Also seeing Max-with 16K posts get banned made me laugh quite alot at how many posts he lost.

The ones with supercrazy post counts, like MaxtheReaper (now banned, though he's clearly reading), Furburt, Pararaptor, Hubilub, NeonBob, Captain Obvious etc. all have posted a lot in a short space of time, and so they pop up a lot in every thread.

Through this, they build up recognisability with the rest of the community, and as such they're noticed even more, because now they're a personality

People look up to 'em because they've got the kind of communal notoriety everyone privately seeks

It's all about the content of their posts. The only thing that gets my goat is the F5ers, who always seem to get first posts in a lot of threads. I can imagine them tapping he button at their keyboard, and being overcome with joy when a new subject arises that they can type two lines into, whether the topic of the thread is meritous or not.

There are a lot of users on here that are recognized for a lot of different things. Some may be a god over in forum games, while nobody would know them in Religion + Politics. Some may be known for starting crazy threads. It's all good.

For the most part, the people with insane post counts either flame everyone, post on everything regardless of having anything useful to say or them actually knowing what the hell they are talking about. If your post count is is over 1000 per year, you need to step back before posting, ask yourself if you are going to say something worthwhile, if not, stop typing. If you are just going to agree with someone after 50 other people have done so, stop typing. If you are angry when posting, stop typing. Read what you typed, if you are flaming someone, don't post it. In 2 years, I have posted a hair over 1300 times, and I see people that fail to follow those rules constantly get suspended, and banned after they hit 5-6000 posts in 6 months. 90% of what they posted was mindless drivel, and forgettable, along with their names.
