What would you do if you were standing in front certain death and behind you were your own leaders more than happy to kill anyone who turned tail?
I would be dead already.

The average life expectancy of a Guardsman is measured in picoseconds.
I read a book once where a Guardsman was sent to a planet where the average life expectancy was 15 hours. He dies in the end but he's happy because he lived to a few minutes over 15 hours. What a life, eh?

The Great Devourer will eventually destroy all Eldar life if we do not fight to stop it. Such was the fate of the craftworld Malan'tai.

Anything that moves and everything that doesn't move just incase it does move at some point.

The Imperium are blind fools, to say the very least.
As brutish and savage as the Orks, but in a different way, sending untold millions of Guardsmen in to die, simply to let their elite Space Marines take the honour.
They sacrifice a thousand psykers every day in order to maintain the illusion that their carrion-emperor is still alive.
They alienize anything that is not like them, or is useless to them. Anything and anyone with a different belief will be hunted down and destroyed.

Fools, I say.
Only together can we be strong - For the Greater Good!

"Basic training: four months - planetary transportation: seven weeks - life expectancy: fifteen hours"
I never got to read that book myself, sadly. I read Rebel Winter, though, another Imperial Guard book. It's about the Vostroyan Firstborn, you should give it a try.
And just for the record - I doubt I really do have any arch enemy in WH40K. I don't even have any one preference, but rather several favorites:

The Imperial Guard.
The Space Marines.
The T'au.
And the Orks, mainly because they're so fucking funny. Grimgor Ironhide in particular, although he's from Warhammer Fantasy.

Allthough I have no shortage of enemies (not guilty means nothing, you know), with the new codex, all hatred (and all big guns) have rightfully been redirected to cleanse unstoppable abdomination that is called "blood angels".
Gameplay wise, probably Tyranids because of being so bloody many there's no place to deep strike properly...

Since I play 'Nids, everyone's technically my food, not enemy. But from my DOW point of view (as the Tau) I'd say the Imperium. They might have been able to give themselves a chance at one point by allying themselves with the Tau and Eldar, but they had to be dumbasses and make them their enemies as well.

Necrons, every time I beat their bases to the ground in DOW they always have a set of HQ's scattered around the map and I have to spend an hour scouring the map for the remnants. Only to find more HQ's, scour the map.........

Tyranids are the biggest threat. Obviously the foul entities of the warp seek to corrupt mankind and drive it to self extermination but chaos cant function without squishy mortals to seduce and after the tyranids reduce the galaxy to a bunch of lifeless floating rocks the chaos gods wont have fuck all to do.
Theres some particularly nasty fanfic out there that has suggested Slaanesh may have corrupted a Tyranid hive....

But I had Nids the most, damn fast movers always get in to close combat because my first turn of shooting historically has always sucked.

As a staunch supporter of the Death Guard, my enemy would probably be... well, everyone and everything I haven't made sick or killed yet. In particular I suppose that'd be the soldiers and citizens of the Imperium.

The book is called, strangely enough, Fifteen Hours, and is written by Mitchell Scanlon.
Co-incidentally, I happen to own this book, and about 90% of what's available from the Black Library.

OT: My biggest foes would have to be either the 'Nids or the Eldar.

The 'Nids are generally more likely to defeat me, but one of my friends who plays Eldar has an uncanny knack of rolling his saves very well.

35 armour saves passed. At once. Not impressed =(

The Imperium for not seeing the true way, the Emperor for not accepting the devotion we offered him. For the Chaos Gods! Let the Galaxy Burn!

Everything not Imperial must be cleansed from this galaxy to ensure the continuity of human domination.

Although of them all, I would say I despise Chaos the most. Traitors are the lowest form of scum.

Dark elder easily.

I can't understand why nobody uses them, in the hands of a competent comander, I've never seen them lose a match.
