Oh lord, these horror stories are great. Keep em coming. Hopefully we should see some Escapist crew filling out some horror stories.

I'm sure they are no stranger to creeper love.

Seriously, ALWAYS make sure your glass ceiling is sealed.

I just started a new world. The spawn point is in water. Water that immediately knocks me down a deep shaft. If I am not paying attention when I spawn I run off the cliff side and fall to my death in lava. Even if I am paying attention half the time I end up swimming back up that waterfall.

Not sure how it happened, but I woke up from my bed just five minutes ago, and an exploding creeper was standing in front of my sealed off room, with the door closed.

Just...standing...there... starring...
Didn't explode, lucky.

Built a huge massive mob killing machine with a huge glass window so i could watch. but then 5 creepers came out and blew a hole in the machine. there was a massive mob infestation that resulted in my entire prototype sector was destoryed.

i was mining in a massive cavern i found, it was filled with iron (i spent about a week mining it) and so i walk out of it with an ENTIRE inventory of iron (i still haven't found diamond) and as i walk back up a creeper explodes in my stairwell and while it didn't kill me what did happen is that i was knocked back and fell into some newly revealed lava

needless to say i started a new world shortly after but it was the gargamel seed so it worked out

Make sure that your bed isn't touching an outside wall. It took several tries and a request for help thread on this site for me to figure it out

I assume you had this problem before?

I'd built a huge fortress in the middle of a ring of mountains that was about 10 minutes of walking away from spawn. With iron armour, a sword and a bow and the survival essentials I was set to make my first trip into the nether.

I entered the portal and did some exploring, eventually having to retreat from the legion of ghasts raining fiery death upon me and found that the portal had returned me to the middle of nowhere.

It took me over half an hour of searching, walking through the night through dense forests and across frozen peninsulas, none of which I recognized, before giving up and sinking to the seabed.

Eventually I found my way back from spawn by using the random destruction of the landscape in my early building stage as a means of navigation. This prompted me to install the minimap mod so that it would never happen again. I never did find that other portal though...

I am currently on another hiatus after watching around 70 obsidian blocks, 50 iron blocks, a few golds a diamond pick burn to cinders. This has happened four or five times now...

I have developed a reflex to whip around and back up as soon as I hear a hiss
unfortunately one day i had mined out a large amount of dimonds when I hear a hissing noise and the reflex kicked in and I fell into lava
the worse part is the sound was my cat not a creeper

Best one I had was after a few hours and minecraft days of playing I had built a fort on stilts. It was inpenetrable, (Spiders could not climb in game yet) or so I had thought. Basically this creeper was circling my house for a few days. The area was out in the open so I didnt want to make a run for it. I spent a few minecraft days, going up and down my ladder, constantly pissing the creeper off. (For fun) After about 2 in game days, the creeper climbed after me and ended up blowing my entire fort up. Didn't know the damn things could climb, they dont have arms!

Here's my worst story:
I was playing with this group of mods called Cosmic mods(I highly recommend it to any and all who are a bit bored with vanilla Minecraft, but don't want anything extremely different). The main mod adds 5 new ores - copper, scrap metal, both of which are common, Mythite, which is really rare and can only be found in high mountains, Unobtanium, which is even rarer and can only be found at diamond depth, and Infinium, which is insanely rare and can only be found on the bottom 4 layers or so. Anyways, after getting my Infinium pick(which digs through just about everything instantly and has infinite durability) I kept on branch mining to find more Infinium for more tools, but at one point when I was making a tunnel through a lake of lava that was in my way I slipped and fell into the lava... And it took me around 7 hours to find the 3 pieces of ore to make the pick. Thankfully, I had a relatively recent backup. :p

The moral of the story is: Kids, always backup your Minecraft saves!

after days of minecraft i decided to go on an adventure... after a swin through the ocean, trek through forests and mountains i found a small cave. i decieded to head inside... i followed it down in to the shafts finding nearly every ore (except diamond) i hit bedrock eventually and on my way back up i spotted another small opening. at this time i had a 64 stack of gold, serveal 64 stacks of iron, dickloads of coal. and other blocks... i followed the small tunnel where at the end i seen a block of diamond... as i mined it thre were more and more blocks (about 12) and just one more... i eagerly busted open the last diamond... behind which was a lava flow... i was too distracted by the sparkely beauty to mine a staircase on the way down.., drown in lava... lost my new ores and my clock and compass... fuck you minecraft... fuck you

Probably it was in SMP where I died in a vast cavern system and couldn't find my way back in time and everything vanished. 3 stacks of iron ore, a stack of gold, 40 diamonds, a crapload of LL and a full set of diamond armor...gone.

Classy, it took days for a creeper to figure out how to climb!
