Of course not. I occasionally talk to people through them. Anything that inconveniences me (and assuredly many others) should not be enacted.

No, they're actually pretty decent in many corners. It's only the really popular and/or rather provocative videos where the asshats show up. In fact, I kinda hung out in said better corners before coming here.

I don't disable them, i just don't scroll down most of the time. To many comments are flamewars on religion so i avoid them. I once saw a video were some one mentioned christian rock for 3 seconds of a 5 min video and it was a flame war.

No...why? Because you don't like what you see? Then don't read it. I don't understand what disabling the comments for all youtube videos would do. If it's for the author's sake, well, they have their own option to disable comments if they want. I'm in NO WAY trying to defend the indescribable volume of hatred and ignorance spewed from the comments coming from youtube...I seem to hate 90% of what youtube idiots have to say. But I mean...disabling the videos isn't going to make the racist/sexist/heathen posters suddenly have a change of heart and act right on the internet.

Also I know it's already been said but I kinda hate your options. Of course no one's going to think that the "comments on YouTube are the very epitome of tranquility and cerebral conversation," but I still want to vote "No" that they shouldn't be disabled.

I really dislike this poll. It takes two extremes without even considering the middle ground.

Onto my experience, YouTube comments are a bit of a mixed bag. Yes, you do have some annoying posters, especially in videos that have been viewed a lot. That said, videos can also spawn very interesting discussions and it is at those moments that you can find some really interesting and intelligent comments.

Basically, YouTube comments are not that different from any other widely popular way of communication. There will always be bad apples no matter what you do. It is just a matter of judging whether it is worth having comments in spite of them and I would say that it is.

Its because there is no moderation. Simple as that. Should they disable comments? Well it would definitely stop the crap, but then again you could always just hide the comments, it what i do.

I picked no because frankly I don't care for reading a lot of comments on videos on YouTube specifically. Perhaps instead of banning comments, instead they could choose to insert code to hide comments unless you actually want to view them so you aren't distracted when watching a video.
At least no one tries to claim to be first to comment on there anymore... or at least not as much. Number one reason why I hated reading comments on there in the first place.

Here's how Youtube comments end up splitting up:

50% are racist and trollish in nature.

10% are 'Faux Intellectuals'.

30% are stupid folks being stupid.

5% are smart people.

4% are nice people.

1% is a "hybrid" of smart and nice people.

No, comments are vital for actual people that make videos based on feedback by the community. While on the majority of produced videos (Music videos ect.) comments aren't really needed but removing them completely will destroy the tiny amount of videos on there still produced by people for the fans.

Can't believe no one's done the XKCD comic yet... here you are:

I hate looking up stuff on the Internet.

OT: They're funny to watch. While some people are a bit sophisticated (excuse my spelling), they're mostly depressingly dull (as the comic stated).

I enjoy reading the comments on YouTube. Sometimes the arguments are hilarious. And if there was a very heated argument that ended recently, I tend to "declare a winner" which usually fires the war back up again.

I love the comments on videos that show new guns and military tech

they ether involve how awesome the US and how we can beat anyone or why the US army sucks compared to Russia/Britan/China/Canada

It depends on the video. The kind of video reflects who watches it, so depending on the video, you can see people actually commenting on the video, or just rambling.

There's alot of r-r-r-retards on YouTube, but that's just how the world works. The comments are a neccesary evil. What they shouls axe though, is the new(ish) amazing invisible video lists.

Lot of middle ground in that poll, is there?

Anyway, disabling all of it would be... meh. I wouldn't see that as a good or a bad thing - more as in "removing a feature the site has". So they much as well leave it.

There's this nifty down arrow button at the top of all comments. Click it.
There, now all comments are removed from YouTube and you can go along making more unbiased polls.
