I try to budget my gaming, so along with other sources, his opinion holds some weight. I don't think it's right to take his word as gospel, nor do I think people should dismiss it outright. It's designed to be humorous, but it's as valid a review as any other.

Well no, Mr. Croshaw is hilarious and he's got a great beard, not to mention his hat, he's just pure sex all over. But before I even watch his reviews I tend to have the same presumptions about a game or the same oppinions about a game I already own. I am very selective with my games and im not gonna buy Resident Evil Outbreak (especially not after RE4) or Burnout Paradise just to see if it's a trainwreck it almost speaks for itself, but it is nice to hear confimation from a reliable and intelligent source rather than Gamespot or IGN.

I'll admit it, he's seldom changed my opinion about games I know I'm gonna get anyway.
(UG - how to describe what I'm thinking in a way that makes sense.)

Yahtzee is an odd fellow. You don't have to agree with him, you don't even have to like him; but you have to admit, he THINKS about what he's going to say. He has a solid head on his shoulders, and he's not particularly afraid for his job or what his PR department is going to say. He has a sort of Eric Cartman, "Ah do what I whant!" vibe about him.

What I'm trying to say is regardless of whether or not I agree with him, I value his candor, and I value his opinions, because at least he takes the time to form them reasonably well. A good review these days is a rare thing, open any video game mag and flip to the review section, you'll probably get six page coverage of the games everybody was already going to get, and 1 paragraph coverage of the games you might actually like to know about. Yahtzee tends to cram allot of information into a funny five minute video, I get more out of Zero Punctuation then I do out of all my magazines. So yea, I don't agree with him from time to time, but that's fine, I don't need to agree with him - I like ZP anyway.

Yeah He seem's to have a similiar taste in games as me, I crippled myself unnessacerly in the psychonauts review(if you havn't played this go get it... NOW) , and he has a knack for pointing out all the sh**ty design chioces that plauge the games industry. I just wish industry people (you know who you are) would watch and make somthing friggen original instead of cloning sucesses, altering the plot, changing the gun's(slightly) and updating the graphics.

If I had to say, he focuses reviewing games that are crappy to him to get a audience.

Here an example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3YPuBofy6w

If you look at the one comment BTW you can see one single person telling him to review burnout.

LOL, this is a historical discovory, Croshaw accepts to review a game from one blabbing sheep.

I usually have opinions before he manages a review, and we seem to think the same of most games.

I really think he was reaching for SOMETHING, ANYTHING to dislike about Super Mario Galaxy, though. The only thing about that game that sucked was the awful voiceover on load... and weegee.

No they really don't. Not because his reviews aren't valid but just due to the fact by the time he reviews a game it has been out here for a while and either I have already played/own it or I have already decided it isn't for me.

Considering he doesn't review games(he slates them in a funny way!), all he does is make me think about games definitely not to get, and considering he takes heavy jabs at games he DOES like (the point of his act), then theres not much credence there either.

Theres a difference between reviewing a game and giving your opinion of it, he does the latter.

No more than any other review. He has less BS and more humor than most reviews which is nice.

IMO they are pretty much the same thing. Although reviews are perhaps slightly more formal in structure and usually assign a grade of sometype.

Well to be honest Yahtzee is one of those strange Games Reviewers who doesn't hold back on a game just because he likes it. I find that refreshing for one, most Reviewers just state the general gameplay and say Yay or Nay, but he actually talks about poor choices in Voice Acting and all the other technical points all the other reviews make such a big bloody show leaving out.

Normally I agree with him, except for J-RPG's because I like Final Fantasy. He is right when he says that Vann and Tidus both look like cross-dressing women. I saw Tidus in X and just wished he would put on a shirt. The last game where I accually liked the character design in a J-RPG was Shin Megumi Tensi: Persona 3

Well, when I first started watching his reviews, he had already released a half dozen (6) or so, and as such, watched all the half dozen (6) or so. Some of those games reviewed I owned, or played extensively, and Yahtzee basically took what i felt about each of those games, and wrapped it up in a nice package of British accent, fast talking, and pure humorous sinisterism.

So, yeah, his reviews are accurate.

I think Yahtzee's very knowledgeable about a lot of games, but like everybody, he's got his favorites. I'd be wary of expecting a fair review of an MMO from him.

I dont agree with some of his reviews mostly how he bashes japanese RPGs, but everyone doesnt have to like the same games I suppose. His reviews are helpful. Im not gonna go and pick up every great looking game that comes out and his review help me decided which one are really Above and Beyond (take COD4) and which ones are just Average (DMC4).

I listen mostly for the comedy, but he speaks lots of truth too. I was glad to hear someone finally pointing out the flaws in games like BioShock and Halo 3 when most reviewers go into ecstatic seizures over those titles. He seems to have a good grasp on the tired cliches and annoying elements of video games, and is pretty good at sniffing them out.

Even when I don't agree with him I have to admit he has good points. Sounds odd, I know, but the best example is Mass Effect. He bashed it a lot, but I have the game and love it to death. But he was right about things like A) The combat being wacky and B) The tendency of the characters to open up quickly to the PC (though that's kind of a theme in all modern RPGs). He also admitted that his reflexive dislike of RPGs influenced some of his complaints.

Either way, he points out the flaws of a game mercilessly (whereas I've found that many game reviewers these days don't), and that's what counts. I can look at the flaws he hilariously explains, and then I can decide if I can live with them or not.
