In another topic I created I put up a poll to see how many people here joined the forums because of Yahtzee, the poll ended with a number hovering around 7-8 hundred. Given that that's not including everyone on the site replying I'm betting the total number of Yahtzee fans (on the site at least) numbers possibly near 1000!

So, I was thinking, how bad ass would it be to have a Yahtzee-Con, possibly in Australia (why not, it's beautiful and I don't think they get anything cool... you know, ever...), where the man himself is there, and then from there we could do one of two things: either have games he feels might have promise so he can inform us about them and make sure they don't fall into development hell (like everything good eventually does), or games he think are going to utterly suck so can ask the increasingly awkward game developer very pointed questions about what he feels is going to suck in the game and what he felt sucked in previous games.

I could see the second part being amazingly amusing and possibly good for the industry. No reason they couldn't have both as well.

Anyway, just a sweet thought I figured I'd share. What do you folks think about a ZeroPunctuation-Con?

Pfft. God no. It takes a lot to get me to a convention, and if it's outside two hours' drive it can fuck right off.

I have better things to do than waste time standing in a large room with lots of sweaty yelling people.

That sounds, bad. Sorry but I can't see Yahtzee enjoying something like that. I think we'd all be happier if he continues to confine himself in his little hut and continues to make videos weekly.

I don't thnk The Escapist has the money or industry connections for such a thing.
I never implied they did, I was just putting the thought out there, as it amuses me. And actually if they could demonstrate a demand, and sell advertising there I'm pretty sure they could put something together. The simple rule of the world is: if there's enough people willing to make it happen then it will.

A convention for one guy? No...

Di-... did you read my post or just the title? It would be just like any other gamescon with developers bringing out their games to show to a crowd, it would just be games hand picked by one of the pickiest people in the biz, which sounds quite appealing to me. The main turn off for Cons for me is that most of it is in god awful taste with more respect shown to the series that generate revenue than the original titles that add something to the gaming meme.

I read your post. Most conventions have a theme or something. Comic Con, Otakon, Anime-whatever, etc. Zero Punctuation Con? No. Since what you want is basically another Gamescon, your topic should be "Wouldn't it be cool if Yahtzee showed up to Gamescon?" or something, not a Yahtzee Con.

Nice Idea, Although it would need a lot more than just one man to be successful.

How ever I do wish there were more gaming conventions in Australia. I'm incredibly envious of America since they get E3 and PAX.

This was another thing I figured, not being from Australia but having friends who are I'm aware it lacks in good GameCons.

No, not really.

Focused on Yatzhee? Nope, he's just a guy who makes videos every week; he doesn't do anything worth having a convention over.

Focused on games Yatzhee likes? You're gonna make a convention about Portal, Silent Hill 2, and Prince of Persia The Sands of Time?

Focused on more original games? Well, now you're getting somewhere interesting, but at this point you lose the whole "Zero Punctuation" part of it. What's the point of naming it after Yatzhee or his show if he has very little to do with it?

Meanwhile, if something falls into development hell then you will never, ever know if it's actually good or not.
I'm okay with naming it whatever, I just would want Yahtzee in charge as I feel his rather harsh nature would ensure quality games would be the only things we'd see at the Con. It doesn't have to be ZPCon, it can be like the F^#* You, Make Good Games!Con or something, I don't care.

Also: A con about Silent Hill 2; Yes, I would attend this, though I don't think it could be a yearly thing. Just like a once. Maybe get Akira Yamaoka, the team, and the voice actors together, various fans and fan critics and artists who've been inspired by the game, I think that would be a brilliant day of fun.

I might stop by if I happened to be in Australia in the town where it was at the time it was held.

Other than that I don't see much point to be honest.
ZP is a little too smalltime to have it's own Con if you ask me.

I think one of the biggest problems is the lack of gaming celebrites, since most live in the U.S. and wouldn't want to take a 20 hour flight to a convention that may have a low attendance.

I doubt that Yahtzee would want to do that, and the Escapist wont have that kind of money.

A ZPcon Nah, but if there was an Escapist-Con where I can meet my buddies, that would be cool, also it still could be based in Australia and Yahtzee could make a brief appearance with the rest of the Escapist staff, it also can have the stuff they usually do stuff that they do in E3 and PAexpo, show games and stuff. But first the Escapist has to be REALLY popular, probably more popular then Penny Arcade to make a convention or Expo.

That I would go to for the games, friends and FOOD (DID I mention they would hire EpicMealTime for the canteen).
