And that last bit explains why I don't have to care about any of your argument. XD
That and how full of holes it is. You're not even paying attention, I didn't say every word Yahtzee said was a divine thread of gold that should be followed as law, I said I like his standards for games, and think generally high standards are the way to go. He hates JRPGs a genre I happen to love (mind you mostly out of a nostalgia at this point, thanks Square for driving all your creative people out), and our tastes don't match up on a number of things but I do believe that if he were to be in charge of a convention (like a boss or dictator, as you so poorly put it in an argument that doesn't make sense as one minute you're arguing that con's aren't run by one person by explaining that they.... are.... run... by... one person) that only quality games would show up.

Sadly this would exclude games you would probably like and I'd miss out on the ever so important thick-headed-blow-up-aliens-plot-doesn't-matter-and-what-in-the-hell-is-orginality-and-why-does-it-matter demographic, oh woe is me.
Right back at you, brother.

My point is that you can't base a convention on one man's opinion just because you agree with what he says.

As for Halo's originality - please, tell me if there are any games just like it before the original came out. No, wait, nevermind. Don't. I'm done with this.
As Yahtzee pointed out pretty damn recently but as everyone has known for a while, the Space Marine cliche is ripped off from Warhammer, the setting is ripped off from a sci-fi novel the name of which escapes me, regenerating health was only popularized by Halo, and there had been plenty of video game plots about over-powered earth-based soldiers traveling the galaxy to perform acts of xenocide.

Wait, no, hold up. You're joking right? Let me guess, you've only been a console gamer? I mean, I don't really know enough about Halo (thank god) to really cite this but I'm pretty sure Bungee put out a game JUST LIKE HALO before Halo on PC.

No matter what there was nothing original, creative, or even fun about that poorly written, mediocre at best game.

Halo, and it's fans are a side effect of the death of creativity in gaming.

I picture a bleak, black and white, 1984-esque world where the only game is Call of Halo Infinity, and you can only play games on the MicroBoxZero that breaks every week so you have to buy a new one, and every week a new Call of Halo Infinity has to be bought and downloaded onto your new console because they consider it a totally new game as they put in one tiny little update making the ass cheek of one ewok-sounding alien just a bit more shiny, and that is all, and there is no choice because there is no need to choose things because originality is just scary and confusing, and the plot is a series of explosions, titties, close-ups of guns, and fart noises.

This is the world you're working towards, Great Job!

P.S. There is nothing witty about saying "right back at ya" to someone.

Isn't this how cults get started? First it's YahtzeeCon, then we all get matching robes and before you know it, we're chanting the daily prayer to Lord Yahtzee in our thousands.

I love Yahtzee and all he contributes to the gaming industry, but you can't create a convention around a single man, plus you forget he isn't actually a public entertainer and he really hates people.

What would be cool is have panels with him at PAX and GDC, and all the others... where he can poke in developers eyes, just make sure he has a body guard so he doesn't get shived.

There'd have to be a lot more than Yahtzee at a con to get me there. I like ZP, but not THAT much.

No, there isn't. I was stating that what you said about me applies just as much to you.

Now, on to other things. Halo. I hope you'll excuse that this is off-topic, but as I remember you mentioned Halo first.

The Space Marine cliche came from, or was solidified and popularized by, Aliens. Go watch that movie right this minute if you haven't. Even the stuck up critics gave it high scores across the board, so it isn't just me that's recommending it.

Regenerating health was done in a Tribes game before Halo CE. But then, Halo CE doesn't have regenerating health. It has a health bar under a shield.

Halo's plot was a mishmash of stuff that's been done in sci-fi before. However, the first game at least told it all very well. Don't believe me? Actually play the game without judging it first.

Yes, I am mostly a console gamer. I do have a laptop and a Steam account which I play on quite often, but every time I try to save up for a PC something comes up that costs me money. I do know a good bit about the PC gaming scene, though my knowledge of it definitely isn't exhaustive.

Bungie's shooter (they made a series or two between these) before Halo was Marathon. The two share very little in common gameplay wise. There are more connections when talking about the story, such as AI's, lost civilizations, super-powered marines, and the like, but even then the two are quite different. Connections made does not equal copied.

Halo has no fart noises or titties in it. There are a grand total of four major female characters in the main series (the first three games), one of whom is a computer and another of whom stays in her dropship for the course of the game. And when said character in a dropship dies, most players actually give a damn. It takes at least some writing skill to make people give a damn about a faceless character.

My Xbox red ringed once. Microsoft acknowledged the problem long ago and extended a three year warranty to anyone whose Xbox had this problem. This problem has long since gone away.

So, what was original about Halo?

It did make FPS games on console work, and it introduced the ability to have guns, grenades, and melee all at once. It was also one of the few shooters available, at the time, which had a story worth listening to. It had a good amount of atmosphere and tension in it, especially in the later levels when the Flood are introduced in a rather iconic level for the series. Its pacing and level design were solid, though the backtracking in the latter half of the game is fairly lamentable. It was one of the first shooters to have vehicle sections that many, many, many people thoroughly enjoyed. In fact, vehicles in that series are very prevalent because they're often done so well despite the fact that the AI can't drive worth a shit.

Some people have said that Goldeneye was the game that made shooters on consoles work. While that may be true, the difference between Goldeneye and Halo is that Goldeneye doesn't hold up today and Halo does. Don't play that card.

I'm going to ask nicely that you pull your head out of your ass and actually play the first Halo for at least an hour before judging it. Come on, a high and mighty PC gamer such as yourself can spare ten dollars to see what us mortals are so entertained by, can't you? Is it too much to ask that you look at the PC version of a game widely considered excellent by many people 'round the globe - not just me - just to see what all the fuss is about? You know, instead of hating a game for whatever reason?

I like Halo a whole lot and can put together correct sentences and do math in my head.

Finally, I could have sworn that in both Halo shooters that Yahtzee reviewed, he never said that either was a bad shit of a game. He didn't like them and called them "average". If you want to take your opinions from him - which you seem to be doing - then that is it.
XD

I'm not reading all that.
You lost me at "at least play it". Of course I've played it, otherwise I wouldn't be talking shit about it. I got all the way to the fucking Flood levels and decided I'd rather place my cock in a vice then play more, however my friends, being obsessed with the lame multiplayer did insist on me playing yet more, if only to show them that I can shoot them just as easily with an Xbox controller. What little I did read of that just proved me right.

For typing all that however, you win the internets. Your prize, as I said, close-ups of guns, explosions, and balls in your mouth.

i think itd be interesting to meet Yahtzee, and im definitly a fan girl, but i dont think you could entirely create a con around him, or his reviews. Theres only so much thats connected to him, and well, i think itd amount to a bunch of fans in a room with Yahtzee wondering what to do next :p

I say, we all save our pennies and go to the Mana Bar!
