A shotgun for me, it's a nice comprimise between my poor physical condition and rather limited aiming skills.
melee weapons might never run out of ammo but you will run out of breath.
I'd rather be out of ammo and able to run away then dead tired and surrounded by the hungry undead...

A morning star mace, they're pretty good at doing damage. As for ranged I'd probably go with a MGL-140 grenade launcher.

guns need reloading which takes time plus bullets can miss. if i had to use a gun i'd go for a pistol due to little recoil so more accurate shots. my ideal weapon would be a sword, preferably a katana and preferably 2 of them.

Actually guns would be much better than katanas, with a katana you would have to waste time cleaning of all the blood off of the blade after every couple of enemies, you would probably tire yourself out earlier because of all the wild flailing you would be doing, it would only be effective at a short range unlike a gun, wich would make it near impossible to tackle a large group of enemies, after every hit you would make yourself vulnerable to other nearby enemies, there is the chance that the blade might get stuck into the corpse of one of the zombies you hit, leaving you defenseless.

While the katana has a lot of cool factor, it would probably be the worst weapon you could pick in the event of a zombie apocalypse.

There is a reason if soldiers today use guns instead of swords.

an interesting argument. as you said there would be problems with large groups of zombies but against a small group, like 3 or 4, it would be good. with your 'after every hit you would make yourself vulnerable to other nearby enemies' you would make one attack flow into the next, particularly if you have 2 katans, so you wouldn't be vulnerable for long, if at all. all you have to do is cut the zombies head off and it goes down so you could kill 2 or 3 in one swing. of course learning iaido or some other sort of kenjutsu/nitojutsu would be helpful.

the bolt action fires slower but it allows you range, and you don't waste ammo like Assault rifles or sub machine guns, or machine guns, and zombies on fire? bad idea. The zombie survival guide states the due to the power of the bolt action rifle, along with the various types powers and range, it's the best weapon to kill them. Head shots kill zombies, and a Springfield 1903 using a 30-06 round will easily kill a zombie or blow off it's limbs. Always go for the rifle, preferably an old military one like a Springfield grand mosien nagat, gewher 43, or lee enfield.
