I agree, damn it. Every time I go to sleep in my bed, she's lurking around in my bedroom and sitting in the dark corner eating MY food.
"What is it my Thane?"
"GET OUT SO I CAN CHANGE INTO MY JAMMIES!"
OT: It's been like that in Bethesda's sandboxes since Oblivion. You just have to decorate carefully. If it falls over, move it elsewhere, or set it differently. Sometimes if things load oddly, they'll just fall from the sky. That's why you'll find things fallen over - they didn't have a clean landing.
My follower summoned this inside my house, and it turned hostile. After I killed it the corpse persisted, so I followed the logical course of action and used it as a decoration.
Because it's a really good one if it is, and a slightly creepy statement if it isn't.
OT: Because my internet decided to eat my post the first time, I'll post again.
Same thing happens to me too, I put a few things down (just a few instruments and a troll skull) and left to go do some questing, and when I came back, the instruments were across the room and the only thing in the place where I left it was the troll skull.
On a slightly related note, I really like how the bookshelves have a feature to let you put them in there without having to fiddle with the derpy pick up and drag controls.
At least they still let you pick stuff up, I almost thought you couldn't in Skyrim until I started fiddling with the controls and found it out by accident.
For those wondering, and too impatient to use google, you can pick stuff up and drag it around by HOLDING the use button ('A' or 'X' on Xbox and PS3 respectively, and I think it's the 'E' key on PC).
I placed Wuuthrad and the Ebony Blade in the weapon stand immediately to the right when you enter Breezehome, and when I came back some other day, Ebony Blade was gone. Wuuthrad was still there though.
Ebony Blade was still there when I returned the first couple of times, so it didn't disappear immediately.
At the end of the mage's guild mission, when you have to destroy the eye and kill that altmer guy, a segment of the circular room where the eye was was missing. Just below what would have been the floor was what was supposed to be a hidden chest. Inside this chest was Shalidor's insights, the firestorm spell (125 damage, master level) and, and this is incredibly cool........
A sigil stone!
It doesn't do anything at the moment, but it really looks amazing and is genuinely cool that I just found it there,
It's been a year now, and this still happens to me.
I've found the best thing to do is to drop whatever it is you're decorating your home with on the floor, save and reload, and then put everything where you want them to be.
