Eternal Eyes on the PS1. You upped your monsters with colored gems. All you know was BASICALLY what it would help out to put a color to. Green helped healing spells . . . sort of . . . or it upped the stat that helped healing. Red helped attack, or gave attack spells . . . maybe . . .

Then the battle system, if a monster dies mid fight, you have to finish the dungeon and go back across the map to the home base to resurrect them for a HUGE cost (at least huge by standards of the first few hours)

the worst combat system i've ever used was morrowinds; it had only a chance to do damage when you attcked and that damage could be anywhere between 1-50 depending no you weapons damage.
you had to put away weapons and sheild to use any spel which only had a chance to cast with shifty damage and effects.

I actualy liked AC's combat system, shaky though it was, because kills were acheived with properly timed strikes and counters. But i agree with people, on it being bad, because it was bad- i'm just strange like that.

MMORPGs have this strange idea that we want a game where you only click on an enemy and watch your character stand there attacking. Why not have it similar to Fable or Legend of Zelda, where you have to dodge the enemy to win?

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Slowing down time really didn't help combat at all, and at times, I would be battling the same guy for about ten minutes. He wasn't even a boss or anything, he was just another minion, but we stood there hitting/countering each other in a stalemate for ten straight minutes. It's pitiful.
You forgot to mention Farah and her game ending death wish.

Though the combat in that game was heaven compared to the infuriating QTE hell of the new POP.

Fable 2 get's my vote. You either mash Melee,Shoot, or Magic.
Wait... so you say it has a bad combat system because it gives you logical choices of weapory in a medieval fantasy Action RPG? Armored Core has a bad combat system because you can only use a giant robot in a 3rd person view?

Also I saw Batman: Arkham Asylum to be less about an involved combat system and more "watch Batman be an utter badass." That's just what I got from it though.

No I says it is bad becuase it offered no challenge. All the enemies rather die in two to three hits or are complety stuck flinching from your countless attacks to even fight back.

All the Hitman games post Blood Money which is the only one I haven't played so can't have a valid opinion. He was so incredibly fustrating. Of course I want to punch the hedges, yes that wall was about the attack us wasn't it, good choice punching yourself who knows what you could get up to? Sigh. Even if you were staring direct at them he'd still manage to miss.

Gran Turismo 4. Worst combat system ever.

The original Fable which I've just replayed had a habit of locking onto the wrong thing all the time, which became infuriating. Protect the traders, Balverines attack them, lock onto trader, ~face palm~. Most amusing instance was when I was being attacked by a rock troll and he locked onto a barrel. Priorities...

I know is not out, but Bethesda's new game "Wet". I have played the demo from the XBL Marketplace and im not sure what it is about it but the combat just feels really gritty and it doesnt seem to flow, there dnt seem to be enough moves to link combos together. And the fact that one of the guns is auto-aim why not just have them both free aim, or at least give the option to turn auto aim off.

I think the point there was that you just mash one of them, you don't need to combine them or use them strategically.

EDIT: On second thought, that was too harsh, my vote goes to Half-Life on the PS2. You couldn't hit anything unless you used the auto-lock button, which picks and targets an enemy with perfect accuracy, it was really boring.

I've played quite a few Bioware games (NWN, KOTOR) but never really enjoyed D&D based combat, even when the rest of the game is fantastic. It just felt really outdated and immersion-breaking, what with the rounds and the overt number-crunching. I was really glad when they dropped it for some of their more recent releases like Jade Empire and Mass Effect. Hopefully, Dragon Age doesn't go back to that system.

Tomb Raider has had a rubbish combat system for the entire series, I wish they would just drop it all together and spend more time on the Enviroment and sorting out the camera issues

Yeah, Assassin's Creed. Why be stealthy when I can just draw my sword and wait for the guards to attack me one at a time until they're all dead?
