So, there seems to be a lot of animosity towards electronic pop music on these boards. Granted, most of the Top 40 stuff is absolutely horrible...

But, and I'm speaking as a huge metalhead here, sometimes I just have the need to put on something danceable, catchy, and simple. It makes me feel good to listen to it, in a different way than anything else. I don't really listen to any Top 40 stuff, but the indie things like Breathe Electric I'm a big fan of, and it really makes you wonder why that stuff isn't on the radio and Far East Movement is...

But what do you guys think? Do you not like pop as a genre, or is it only the Top 40 stuff that irks you? And do we have anyone who actually enjoys the *ahem* more questionable parts of the Top 40 (we won't judge)?

To be more specific, I'm really only referring to the electronic stuff here. I'm not saying that's the only thing that counts as pop in any way, but for discussion purposes let's keep that limitation in place.

EDIT: I sincerely apologize for the thread duplication, the forums went down and I didn't see the notification until after I had already tried it a couple times.

Problem sorted. Next time, PM a mod and we'll sort out the repeat threads for you. Mod.

The way I see it the only thing worse than generic rock is pop.

Thats all I have to say about that.

Hell, some of it is really catchy! A lot of it is complete trash, but there are still some songs that I catch myself tapping my foot to. No worries, I don't hate on it all, just on most.

Most of it is recycled garbage.

I don't hate it on principal, though, like some people I know. In fact, I actually kind of enjoy Katy Perry, and I'm a big fan of Taylor Swift.

The problem is that, for the most part, the shittiest stuff is played the most.

Bubblegum pop is fun to listen to. End of opinion.

When a Top 40 song is not fun to listen to, then I don't like it. I PREFER soundtracks, light rock, soulful ballads, classical, and heavier alternative, but I don't mind tuning in to hear the newest Ke$ha stuff. Why? Because "Blow", "Take It Off" and "Tik ToK" are really fun. As is Katy Perry's bouncier stuff. Or Lady Gaga's songs. And especially Black Eyed Peas.

I don't think I need a flame shield here, I highly doubt has honestly detested absolutely everything I listed.

Electronicy kind of music is only good at parties and such for me, otherwise it is kind of lame.

I enjoy pop these days. Here in the UK, all we have in the top 40 is R&B, R&B, R&B, and the occasional rock song. At least pop songs provide a little variety

No one ever answers "What's wrong with it?" Apparently, I'm just supposed to take "Because it's awful".

The reason that Ke$ha one was awful is because:
A. It has no real melody.
B. The lyrical content is insulting and degrading.
C. There's too much noise.
D. Ke$ha isn't ever actually singing, she's either talking or autotuned.
E. The "hook" is "C - Eb - B - C" forever.

If Ke$ha is half-parody, as I've heard, this song would be hilarious.

However, Bad Romance has:
A. A very obvious and effective melody.
B. The lyrical content, while opaque, isn't downright infuriating.
C. At no point is the melody drowned out.
D. Lady Gaga can actually sing.
E. The hook is very famous for a reason.

I've explained my stance, explain yours. Give me something - ANYthing - beyond "It hurts and makes me want to die".

I like electronica that's done well.
I like any music from any genre as long as it's done well.
Why is genre always a barrier? :/

Raise. Your. Glass.

God how I hate that stupid gosh dang song.

Turn it up DJ(go steadily into more and more annoying chipmunk voice) GAAH.

I have to listen to this garbage at work. It's catchy, yes. But God is it annoying.
it would be so bad if the station played anything but this musical tripe. Oh, at first they did play, "Rockstar" by Nickelback, which isn't THAT bad and better than this pop nonsense.

You're right, the Lady Gaga song is much better preformed (I won't defend either song's lyrics) and better written as a pop song. So why is it that I like the Kesha song more?

I don't even listen to Kesha outside of some random person having the radio on. She's not what I would consider good...she has no real singing talent and she's annoying as hell. But for some reason I find it impossible to hate most songs by her...I have no idea why. Like, no honest to god clue.

You see, electronic pop is much like mining for diamonds, the stuff on the surface is dirt, and in order to find the good stuff you must go underground, but even then it's mostly dirt, you just need to be patient and eventually you will find some gems.
It's the same with many genres of music, Metal, Rap, Jazz, The list goes on.

Don't you hate it when that happens? :p

I had the same feelings about Ke$ha at first, but I managed to avoid Blah Blah Blah the first time around. When I finally heard it (after she released four singles), I suddenly snapped.

Again, I'd hail Blah Blah Blah as a truly awesome song of major value (and maybe even a spot on my Favorite Funny Songs playlist) if Ke$ha outright came out and said that it was all a massive jab at modern day Pop. She's hinted at it, but until she says it outright I will always feel that she's completely dead serious about it. I mean, she DID release it as a single.

I like stuff like this.

Not necessarily the best song by the artist in question, but the newest one and it gives a good idea.

Wouldn't that be the coolest thing ever, if she came out and said it was all a joke? I'd have FAR more respect for the woman and it would make a lot more sense...sadly I don't think that's the case.

My friends and I have made some Kesha parodies, and they only manage to be slightly more offensive than the actual song lyrics...
