On a slightly related topic, is there anyone here who knows of a Canadian webstore that sells the plush Companion Cubes? I've seen them in pics around the web (too identical and too common to just believe it's hand-made custom jobbies) and am DYING to get one. A plush drone turret with built-in audio box would be nice too, but I don't think anyone makes those...

http://store.valvesoftware.com/ they now have plush Hunters as well. still out of headcrab hats though...damn those sell fast.
anyway, on topic. the thing we all need to keep in mind is, has Valve ever really let us down with ANY single-player, story driven game they've released? If there's one thing we can expect from a Portal sequel it's their usual spit and polish of design along with superb narrative writing.
Also, gabe newell (as well as most of the game developers out there) really does dislike the PS3, primarily for it's hardware architecture. This is unfortunate though, as it gives the Cell chipset a bad image. Cell is designed by IBM, and their builds using it (in servers and supercomputers) is absolutely amazing. We're talking 23+ CPU cores here on some systems they've designed. Unsurpassed power and speed. Yet, since Sony liscenced it from IBM and decided they needed to "modify" it for their console, they fucked it all up. Sony's version is unreliable, underpowered, and just too damn hard to program for and fully utilize. Development cycles on PS3 approach Duke Nukem Forever proportions, which is why there are so few decent games, or so few decent builds/ports of multi-platform games on it. They have to rush them out the door just to meet launch deadlines.
