Hello, friend. I see you. Are you there? Hey, put me down! Owowowowowo! Whhhyyyy?
I never knew how hard it was to kill something that said "It's OK, I don't blame you."
I'd like to see the protagonist on the run from Aperture Science, fighting human enemies in an urban environment.

Portal high on wall+portal under car/baddie=awesome.
The part that muddles my brain is how we actually now do feel attacked to the Companion Cube... AND YOU MURDERED IT!

Anyhoo, the only "Good" idea I can come up with for an acceptable Portal2 would be a prequel. Playing as the "First Guy" who left all the clues behind, possibly happening at the same time as GlaDOS's takeover.

Damn, now that would be cool.
I agree. If Valve follow that route it be another big puzzle-fest like the first. But since the song 'Still Alive' says: "And when you're dead I'll be still alive" I don't think they're gonna make a prequel. But, hopfully, I'm wrong.

On a slightly related topic, is there anyone here who knows of a Canadian webstore that sells the plush Companion Cubes? I've seen them in pics around the web (too identical and too common to just believe it's hand-made custom jobbies) and am DYING to get one. A plush drone turret with built-in audio box would be nice too, but I don't think anyone makes those...

http://store.valvesoftware.com/ they now have plush Hunters as well. still out of headcrab hats though...damn those sell fast.

anyway, on topic. the thing we all need to keep in mind is, has Valve ever really let us down with ANY single-player, story driven game they've released? If there's one thing we can expect from a Portal sequel it's their usual spit and polish of design along with superb narrative writing.

Also, gabe newell (as well as most of the game developers out there) really does dislike the PS3, primarily for it's hardware architecture. This is unfortunate though, as it gives the Cell chipset a bad image. Cell is designed by IBM, and their builds using it (in servers and supercomputers) is absolutely amazing. We're talking 23+ CPU cores here on some systems they've designed. Unsurpassed power and speed. Yet, since Sony liscenced it from IBM and decided they needed to "modify" it for their console, they fucked it all up. Sony's version is unreliable, underpowered, and just too damn hard to program for and fully utilize. Development cycles on PS3 approach Duke Nukem Forever proportions, which is why there are so few decent games, or so few decent builds/ports of multi-platform games on it. They have to rush them out the door just to meet launch deadlines.

See, now I want to take a pair of cheap speakers, a brief refresher course in sewing, and make something like that. I'm thinking something with legs sturdy enough to stand, soft enough to hug, and instead of opening up and having gun barrels, you'll have speakers! Maybe make it motion sensitive (red laser light!) with a zipper pouch in the back to hold iPods / mp3 players.

Because I would be the one to rip all the Turret speech onto an iPod and load it into one of those things. "Hello? Is anybody there? I see you! Nap time."
sell those things and i guarantee youll make a few bob (bucks in non-british speak), id buy one! :D

Damnit, Valve's store ain't got no Cubes. And now I want a headcrap and vortigaunt.
Edit: Double Damnit!!! Valve doesn't ship to Canada. Damn SOBs, I want a Headcrab hat!

Now here's something I can't figure out. What braindead retards hired all the unimaginative marketing guys for all the great gaming companies? Valve was f'ing brilliant to release so much merch for their games, but them and Nintendo are the only two doing such things. I want a plush Halo1 hunter, some Doom1 Pinkies book ends (matched pair), a Big Daddy bobblehead, Zergling breakfast cereal, an official Gordon Freeman crowbar, a pair of sneakers that look like the C&C Mammoth Tank, and a car dash "Hula Girl" of either Nariko or Cortana
A: Go to the Bungie Store
B: I'm gonna start working on a Companion Cube with storage space. I'll try to find some help for a turret, but it doesn't look likely. Good idea though.

Your best bet's probably eBay. As a fellow Canadian, I sympathize.

Companion Cube > Dice for one's rearview mirror I say.

Personally, I don't really care if Portal 2 has a clever story like last time. Did Tetris need a story? Nope. Did Hexic HD? Nope. Did Bejeweled? Nope.

Puzzle games don't really need storylines, just good gameplay in my opinion.

Although, a continuation of GlaDOS and the Still Alive thing would be nice if they kept it as funny as it was.

But the one thing they had better have is another kick-arse song in the credits.

Like many other I enjoyed portal greatly but I dont know if I would buy it on its own as a game, I do think making it an addition to another game would be the best bet. Then again theres always Steam.

A bit expected, considering the success of the first. But, as others have said, it will ultimately fall victim to "not living up to the hype" of a sequel, from various individuals who will raise the bar far higher than is fair.

Honestly, a game sequel just needs to have a good sense of the tried and true formulae of the original plus some new features to build upon it. As long as Portal 2 creates a believable storyline, new puzzles and ways to use the portal gun, and the same black humor I'll be buying it, hype free.
