Wow... it's coming to the Mac, that's surprising. Mac gamers (all 5 of you) can now rejoice that you won't miss out on what looks to be a great addition to the first game. It'd be nice if we knew more of Episode 3 though...

How exactly is that co-op thing supposed to work? Are we required to hook uo with some stranger from the internet, or even worse, to invite a friend over?
No, that would be silly, you're obviously gonna be learning how to operate a second controller with your feet.
Really interresting idea, but why use a controller, when I can use a mouse and keyboard? :p
Hope this explains my question, PC-Coop, aka Hotseat usually only works in turn-based strategy games.

And playing portal with the average internet-scrub, who can barely dress himself, sounds like a good idea to slaugther the franchise.

"There was no way we could have planned it," says Lombardi. "So we knew we had to double down and give them more. Portal was a test bed. Portal 2 is a game."
This mentality scares me. Why was Portal not a game? Because it was short? Nonsense. Short worked. Not every "real" game in existence has to be a MW2-style blockbuster.

Portal is, to me, one of the best games of all time, but they seem to have so little respect for it. I mean, not even considering it to be a game? That's worrying. It makes me think they're going to do away with all the simple elegance that made Portal so great, in favour of attending to the desires of the kids who, for some reason, need every game to be just like Half Life.

I resent that.

On another note, i haven't been able to find the release date anywhere. Sometime in April I'm lead to believe, but I'd like to know the exact date. Anyone?

We are a rare breed. Hunted for our light, yet warm pelts during the winter months. Our meals are restricted, mainly Blizzard products, but we are a proud race and will continue to game from the shadows.

I must say I feel for you. There's like what...? maybe 50 games total that have been ported to Mac?

Indeed, our food source is dwindling. But the one shining hope that is Steam on Mac should get us through the winter.

Anyone got a release date for the Steam on Mac btw?

Sounds good to me, as long as they can keep the puzzles fresh and as a core element to the game. Not having the PC version, I only have the few original levels to play on and I can't wait for more. Now for the inevitable question: When does it come out? Valve usually take their sweet time with game releases but last year's L4D2 indicates that Portal 2 might be out in the foreseeable future.

It would be Pic in pic, they said, so you're not playing 2 on the same comp, but you sill got a sort-of split screen to make things easier for you.

So you can get the best of two worlds, you're playing with a friend, and you an see what he's doing, but you don't have to invite him over, so you can play naked if you want, it's awesome.

I'm really excited for this. I was a little surprised by it being set hundreds of years in the future though; this'll place us WAY after Gordon.
Could foreshadow something about ep3 or maybe even Half Life 3

Possibly.

They've said it won't really focus on the link between the two that much, but given that this is hundreds of years later you can't just ignore the fact that the combine have raped the planet of it's resources (and that there's been a huge resistance war).

Huh?

It'll be in the same vain as L4D I imagine; invite a friend off of Steam or play with a stranger.

And the game's not all Co-op, there are two campaigns (SP and Co-op) that are totally separate from each other.

Woot! I wasn't much of a fan of Portal as everyone else was because it was too short. Now that they're fixing that this will probably be a pretty awesome game.

Hundreds of years? I thought the events were parallel with those of Half Life 2.

You know, at first I hated the idea of a sequel to Portal. It was one of those games that it was fine as it was and it could just stop right there.

But all of this info has actually got me excited for how this will turn out. Cool.

ya same with me
