People seem to be getting up in arms over nothing, on both sides.

On one hand, it is just cosmetic. So it could easily be included in the game for no extra cost, it's obviously just Valve milking the cash cow.

On the other hand, it is just cosmetic. If you think it's too expensive, don't buy it. You're not missing any significant part of the game.

couldn't have said it better myself. Still don't understand why some people are acting like they cut out half the game.

Day 1 DLC?

If you had the time to make it, then it ought to be included on the sixty fucking dollar disc they just released. Of course it's going to piss people off when you need to pay more money for all the functionality that should have been released at the store.

I want unlockables and expansion packs back, not fucking DLC. It's more of a headache than it's worth.
Could it be that you misunderstand when a game is finished? Please, please, PLEASE don't think any game developer has their games printed a right before they hit stores or any distribution outlet. Debugging the final build, among other tasks, takes somewhere around 8-12 weeks to complete (Casey Hudson, back me up [http://www.destructoid.com/bioware-s-casey-hudson-rationalizes-day-one-dlc-168047.phtml]) What developers have come to do in between that time is make extra content available for DLC.

So I would not say your game is incomplete (as far as cosmetic extra content goes; story based DLC I find shifty); with the marvelous advent of the internet, developers can continue to "improve" current games (ok, just add more junk). I miss the days of unlockables as well, but something to consider is that the amount of games to select from these days, including what I already own is HUGE, and always growing. I'm rather fine with the experiences from the variety of games I get to play, without bitching over extra shit offered over the internet. Me buying DLC expresses love for a game/developer. It's not a grudge.

And if you're still convinced that your Portal 2 is incomplete, you're free to wait until the price becomes incomplete as well. Hell, with the extra savings, you could get some DLC with it adding up to $60! Game customization!

A lot of people have chosen to say 'well ahead of you'
and pirated it.

I don't give a fuck about cosmetic items and crap like that. Stuff I did care about was the ME2 DLC that was both Day 1 and came with it (Zaheed) and like 3-4 days afterwards and you had to purchase (Kasumi). That's fucking stupid.

Also I'm not paying $50 for 6 hours of gameplay and a co-op mode I have no interest in and will never use.

I'll wait for a price drop or crack, whichever comes first.

Clearly you don't understand what the stink is about.
The stink is about this new thing about making people pay for shit that should be on the game disk already. When I used to buy games, they'd contain everything. I didn't need to 'buy' characters or props for games, they were published completely finished.
tl dr DLC sucks.

the game is the funnest thing ive ever played, and if the dlc is released day one and is just cosmetic like a hat or two just for people who want it.....who cares...the game is bat shit insane hilarious. i would gladly pay up some extra money for this if it WAS extra gameplay content.

Excuse me, but what exactly is it people are being forced to pay for. Nothing. If you dont like the deal you are being given, dont buy it. Also, as I said, you are making a stink because "the hat should be included with the game". A digital hat that only certain people can get. Something you will never use in real life and 10 years from now you will never remember, and if you do, God help you. Thats what the real problem is hear. People are feeling entitlement for things that dont even effect the game one bit whether you have it or not, making this entire conversation insane.

I think it's probably mostly indignation. "I just bought this game, now I have to pay more for all the content? RAGE!" I do understand the uproar, though. This is nothing more than a cash grab, and it's insulting to consumers.

jesus christ what a whiny bunch of fucks the complainers are!!! I mean its fucking COSMETIC!!! i mean really its not like Valve let you play through the whole game until you inevitably get to the finally boss encounter(whether its Cave Johnson, Glad0s, or something else entirely) get half way through it before a screen pops up and say's 'you've made it this far congratulations please pay XXX amount in cash/Microsoft points to unlock the remainder of the current boss battle'. YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY THE items.....ITS OPTIONAL!!!

EDIT: Also, it's not DLC, it's a microtransaction.
$4.99 hardly seems micro. I wouldn't ever pay that for an in game skin that other people are going to be looking at 90% of the time. For the price of two in game skins, you can go see a movie in the theater. Hell, there are whole games you can buy on steam for that much.
(p.s. I'm aware that you were making a distinction between DLC as gameplay content and microtransaction as a little cosmetic download)

But I guess there are people out there who would be willing to spend money on anything.
EDIT: I should clarify that those skewing the reviews are in my opinion whiners, and portal 2 is awesome.

STALKER series, the Cossack series, a few others.

Proper games, not mass popular shit.
I've looked at your Xbox gamer tag. You're in no position to complain about "mass popular shit".

no my friend he is not...I said pretty much the same thing as him(in a different way though of course) and I don't think my comments(or any comments) on 1 solitary thread of the escapists board will ruin anything

the DLC is an option....i dont see why people rage over skins and stuff like that...sure if it was whole levels and stories released i'd rage....but if it's on a comsetic level... whats the point?

at least they arent doing the "project $10" route and saying you'll never get this unless you get the game new shit...
