this thread doesn't have any spoilers or anything Ive just seen a lot of people complaining about stupid crap and want to say that anybody thats even thinking about not purchasing the game because of these complaints should really think again.

the game is absolutely brilliant one of the best single player games Ive played in years its extremely well made and really really funny, i didn't know what to expect when i first went in, i thought it would just be a lot of test chambers in a similar structure of the first game but its so much more with some really great moments and characters.

im on about 7 hours though the single player campaign i think I'm near the end now me and my friends have completed it between about 7 hours playtime without playing the co-op campaign so it will be quite a good length with them both combined

DLC: im not gonna say much about the DLC because i think the argument in this case is stupid but if you think about it, the item shop thing is just option to be used when using steamworks so its not like they spent a lot of dev time making it,

but more importantly the inclusion of the item store suggests that they want to keep adding content for the co-op campaign outside of the final release, and considering their history on proper playable content it will almost certainly be free. i don't know about everyone else but i would much rather have an optional item shop for cosmetic items and have free playable content rather than having to pay for both like most games do

Edit: FOR DISCUSSION VALUE!! so what did everyone enjoy about the game, i love the environments and just the polish of the game and the story and characters and extremely well written i spent the first few hours constantly laughing while being scared of what Glados was planning

Discussion Value?
If there isn't one burried in there, I'll add one: Did you enjoy Portal 2 and if so, what did you enjoy the most? (5 paragraph essay due tomarrow)

It is really fantastic.

That's all that should matter - the DLC argument is just getting silly. They're character skins, a number of which you can earn through achievements anyway (I've only got a few and I've unlocked a hat I think - you know, it makes such a massive difference to the gameplay, and the story is totally different now too).

I like the robots and I like the gun and I like whoosh whoosh and I like the standy-laser-talky-guns and I like the lady robot and I like the boy robot but the lady robot can be scary but I still like her but the boy robot is my favourite robot and is funny and silly but the lady robot does scare me.

Any PC players wanna test the cross-platform co-op with a PS3 player?

I'm not finished, btw. Not finding Portal 2 engrossing enough to play non-stop. Entertaining, hell yes. Engrossing, not so much.

I have Portal 2 on PC, but I am getting it on PS3 tomorrow anyway ^_^

Also, I am in the same boat about the engrossing thing. I played it non stop for about 5 hours. Now the test chamber are quite a bit challenging and I only do one or 2 every sitting before wanting to do something else (At Chapter 8 now by the by).

Still a fantastic game.

I spent the whole game thinking Stephen Merchant's character was voiced by Martin Freeman.

But, on the plus side - Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!

(Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace core may even be better than the curiosity core, and - oh look! that thing has numbers on it! D= )

There is one line in this game that made me love it more than the original.

"Oh, hi there. How are you holding up? BECAUSE I AM A POTATO."

Had me in absolute stitches.

Yes, that sounds exactly right, 1 or 2 chambers and then slump. (7 hours total for single player campaign, and that is including how ridiculously long it took me to figure out that one room that was really simple in the end...)

I think the thing about Portal 2 is that it feels disjointed. It has all of the elements that made the first one great - completely worthy of being a Portal sequel (and I was fully prepared for it to not do it justice), and it's got a good story line, but it somehow doesn't have the same cohesiveness that the first game did. I think it's a combination of how there were such distinct "eras" that were covered with different mechanics in each, and those GOD DAMN LOADING SCREENS.

The weird thing is that the writing is as fantastic as ever. Gotta love Wheatly. But like you say, disjointed test chambers. Great at the start with the first 20 or so chambers but....

....later on when you are going round the older chambers and it trying to introduce the new gels with with the new guy (great voice actor and lines by the by, no idea who he's voiced by).

It just gets a bit unfazed after that.

Edit: I have no problem with the loading screens :/ 20 seconds max. Portal 1 had them too between levels

The thing with the loading screens for me is that it's really jarring to have the fade to black as opposed to a small "loading". It always broke me out of the game just a little. I also think there were more of them than in the first Portal, but I understand the need for loading. Mostly I just wish it didn't fade to black.

I'm indifferent about the fade to black thing. But I do think it would have been a good idea to play those little animation skits (the ones on the screens at the start of each chamber) during the loading screens. Then I wouldn't have to stand at the start of each chamber waiting for them to repeat just to watch them.

That's J. K. Simmons. He played J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies.

That was bad, I groaned. But you get a cookie none the less for your effort.

I was laughing until my stomach could take no more when GLaDOS said to Chell:

"Look at you soaring through the air majestically, like an eagle, piloting a blimp."

makes me lulz just thinking about it!
