If you've played Portal, you know what to expect.

If you haven't, I have no idea why that could be when you say you like puzzles and physics-based games :p
I'm not as tuned in to the game-o-sphere as I should be. That's why I'm asking those that are. ;)

And thanks for all the input!

You answered you own question right there. If you like those types of games, Portal 2 is meant for you. Be warned though, the game really makes you think at parts, to the point where it hurts and you have to walk away. Well, it did for me anyway. Great writing though, great characters, and it never gets boring. You'll catch yourself going, "Just one more puzzle," then look up and realize you've been saying that for an hour. If you can, try out Portal first. On the off chance you don't like it, you don't have to spend full price for a new game.

If you hadn't played Portal (the first game), I recommend you to play it before playing Portal 2. You'll get a better grasp of the story and the gameplay before playing Portal 2.
Both games have excellent comedy and writing, and they're both wickedly fun. Buy both of the games; you won't regret it.

I got it yesterday, and I'm loving it. You'll get more enjoyment out of it than any other recent game, so you might as well pick it up.

I'm not buying it until I play it. Demo or otherwise, I don't spend $50 that way. Reviews and recommendations do nothing, because they have often [http://store.steampowered.com/app/40800/] been wrong [http://store.steampowered.com/app/24960/] for me.

Like:
- it's Portal with alot more gadgets and puzzles
- more awesome story and dialogue

Don't like:
- huge rooms, even the simplest puzzles get rooms so big you haveto sniper shoot portals across the room to get things done, not to mention the tedious walking back and forth
- lack of complexity, mostly I take a long time to figure the puzzle out because of the huge room, so I haveto eyeball it or walk yet more to see it there is something across the room that I may need to get/hit, mixing the puzzle solving fun with part finding tedium... not cool

And minor annoyances with the feel of it(doesn't feel as smooth), but it's still a great game, I was just expecting Valve to polish out these things, but I guess they needed some extra time on those hats.

If you haven't played the first, I'd recommend you play through that before moving on to Portal 2. I like the sequel better, but I wouldn't appreciate it as much if I didn't have the context of what happened in the first.

Get them both and I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Haven't even finished yet, and it's contender for game of the decade.
If this is true, the ending will possibly skyrocket this game into your favorite game ever. Of all time.
I just finished it and...

That's a surprisingly astute assessment.

I very much like puzzle/physics-based games and want more info about Portal 2. I've seen a lot of differing opinions here in the forums and would like input from some "hardcore" gamers.

If you like puzzle/physics-based games, what did you like/dislike about Portal 2 and why?

If you haven't played Portal 1, it's pretty much a requirement that you play it first, as a Portal 2 does very little to give you any backstory; it assumes that you've played Portal 1 and if you haven't, you're going to miss out on some of the subtle stuff.

As for whether or not you will like it, personally I can't even conceive of someone disliking Portal 2, and frankly I wouldn't really want to meet someone who did dislike it; I have a feeling they would be a miserable person to be around.

It's one of those games where there is practically zero risk of you just taking a leap of faith and being disappointed.

The game had a couple of niggling issues BUT the real meaty puzzles were put into co-op and that made up for the slight drop-off in difficulty. The issues truely are just llittle niggles in an otherwise mindblowing game. What has been achived is pretty dammed special. The writing (the thing that elevated "Portal" from 'dammed good puzzle showcase' to 'full bown masterpeice') has taken several steps up. The changes in pace, stlye and just spectacualr moments along the way make it well worth just coming along for the ride.

Some would say Valve shot for the moon and actually got there =P

Anyway, yeah, I'd agree. It wasn't perfect, but nothing is, and the few niggles by no means detract from the masterful writing, world building, and genuinely clever puzzles. I haven't played a this engaging since the nostalgic old N64 days. :D

It's also a testament that in many games I could pick a favourite moment, in Portal 2 I'd have dozens.

This made me laugh a lot though:

"This is the part where he kills us!"
"This is the part where I kill you!"

Chapter 9: The part where he kills you

Achievement unlocked: The part where he kills you
(desc: the part where he kills you)

The only criticism I can think of is that it isn't quite as fresh as portal 1. When the only problem is that it isn't as good as it's predecessor that's the mark of a good bloody game.
Well its a bit of a cock-slap considering most game sequels improve upon the originals. These arguments about it being "not as fresh" make no sense to me considering how different it actually feels beyond the core gameplay.

OT: Buy it.

Just buy it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.

Now.
Some of the jokes are re-used, and it isn't quite as satisfying as portal 1 was.
What jokes are re-used?
