I was looking at comparison graphics between Portal 2 on Ps3, 360, and PC, and while PC looked great (as does the ps3 version), I noticed it colors seemed to look wash out almost:

Anyone know why this is?

Edit: To explain what I mean, it looks like the PC version at least in this screenshot has a wierd orange tint over everything. That makes the colors seem washed out.

I think the PC picture there looks the best, to be completely honest. It has the highest contrast. The others look washed out, IMO.

Actually, if you look at the blue and orange of the confirmation signs, you can see that the PC version is much brighter. The PS3 version does have the reddest red, however on the PC version I bet that can be fixed by actually calibrating your screen colors like no one ever bothers to do but really should.

The PS3 version looks a bit brighter than the other two.

*shrug*

I wouldn't have noticed if they weren't lined up like that.

I'm amazed and just a little saddened that people are capable of giving a damn about this sort of thing.

Doesn't the 360 have AA? Becuase damn, those platforms are jagged.

As to the actual pictures: PC deffo looks the best, but meh, who cares that much.

Wow, these screens actually look kinda shitty. Does this mean I can run it on my Pentium 4 3,2GHZ 4GB RAM GeForce 8600 GT?
I'm running on worse than that. I have to keep it at 720x480 for the FPS to go over 40 (because i can't play games on lower fps than that :/), but it definitely works.

Damn, this is taking a while to load. I bloody hate my internet. :p

Anyway, I don't think that the PC looks washed out; I think that the red/orange effects just show up more intensely on the PS3.

More to the point, why do we care?

Are we looking at the same screenshots?

The PC is clearly less washed out than the PS3 and Xbox. look at the orange tick, it's much more orange than either of the others. the only thing is the Laser which looks better on the PS3.

also why are the blue and orange reversed on the consoles.

Looks to me like the PC is just rendering the light source more realistically...

Well it has been many years since the first portal. I don't think anyone was working on repainting.

PC version looks a lot nicer graphically. The discolouration on the cube is more distinct on the console versions, but that's not necessarily a good thing - there's definitely more AA happening on the PC version compared to the console version, which will reduce contrast.

So yup - definitely think the PC screenshot is the spiffier of the three.

the PC version has a little something that neither PS3 or Xbox does as good. its the atmosphere. theres a light smoke or fog throughout the game and PS3 and Xbox 360 wont show as much and as good of quality, then theres the lighting and shadows.. in the PS3 and Xbox360 the light on the floor was way too bright and shadows way too crisp. the fog and lighting/shadows creates a warm atmosphere on PC but too crisp on PS3 and 360.

now in those screenshots, look to the left side and scroll up and down. notice the console ones the textures are completly covered in shadows? infact you cant tell what that is on the console version if you look at the metal plate leaning on the wall at the corner. console versions it blends into the floor. that looks horrid compared to the PC version.

washed out? no, not at all. its not crisp black/white/red/blue contrast because the setting of the game is not that. its not a cartoon game, theres good use of shadows and fog in the levels to give the atmosphere that the facility is not new crisp and clean. that was the first portal for crisp and clean.

off topic, that PC SS was real bad looks allot better on my system.

*edit

i did a screenshot..

My PC version looks better than that. I'm pretty sure it automatically sets the graphics up for your computer (just a guess, mine are set pretty high and were like that from the start, so that's my theory) so you might just have a crappy CPU.
I'm with HG131 here. Portal 2, running on my machine, looked WAY better than that PC pic. Me thinks someone (whoever took the screen caps) is trollin' for some PC/console arguments. The truth is, the PC version has much, much better light sourcing than the console version. Not to mention much better anti-aliasing and anistropic filtering. So, no. The PC version does not look washed out.
