Thoughts? Rebuttals? Jokes?

On the one hand, this makes me doubt the whole user score system, but on the other, I wonder what other recourse gamers have for getting their voices heard beyond the games' forums. Maybe we just need to start taking the user reviews with some bigger grains of salt. Or heaping spoonfuls in some cases.

A lot of people are complaining about "Day 1 DLC," which is stupid, considering you can earn the items in-game with achievements instead, and they're completely cosmetic alterations. Some people are disappointed, especially because of all the hype, but I, and many others, are enjoying it very much.

is portal 2 really the breaking point? thats what i dont understand...current DLC trends are utter bullshit, but portal 2 is a finished, great game, by a developer that has to fund themselves and is essentially indie.

we REALLY couldve picked a better target...DA2 and its ridiculous amounts of promotional DLC? dante's inferno selling us bloody level up points?

portal 2? really?!

Lol, so good :D

For the record, I love the game so far and Wheatly is great.

I'm just aghast that Portal 2 is getting this treatment to any extent. Even though I like DA2 and I think a lot of the flak it's gotten has been overblown, I can understand why it happened. This, though? I just don't want Metacritic to turn into a soapbox for the self-entitled. I don't mind biases showing up, but I at least want people to be forthcoming with their critiques. Review the game for what it is. If your biases about a company or its practices creep in, so be it, but don't turn it into a directed attack. I'd hate for this to get out of hand in the future.

So the 4 hour thing includes the co-op too? Maybe I'm just being slow, I'm 5 and a half hours in and getting nearish the end, but then I like to fully explore games and got stuck for a little while in certain places.

Seems odd to me that so many people all managed to finish the game in exactly the same time. And they all happen to be people who are complaining about the game, none mention the co-op and they are giving it 0 scores, hmmmm. This almost smells as fishy as that time a Norweigen friend of mine wrapped all my lightbulbs with herring.

Right. Portal 2 is bad because I don't get every little thing I say I'm entitled to (rolls eyes).

That said, I'm going back to playing Portal 2 now and continuing to laugh my head off at the great one liners in the game. "If the laws of physics no longer apply in the future, God help you." Ba ha ha ha ha ha.

While i'll continue to tout my "it's trendy to hate on what's popular" line, and go on about how we all saw this coming after Halo, CoD, ME2 and DA2, i will say that the allegedly short length (between 4-6 hours depending on skill from what i've heard) is pretty disgusting for a full retail game of £35. It's barely longer than The Ball, and i got that for £7.50. Same sort of thing, solve puzzles using a "tool" (a hammer and ball instead of a portal gun), only it's made by an indie dev and so the cost is not extortionate. While indie titles will never have the polish equal to a AAA release it's still mind numbingly depressing when you compare the cost of the two and you realise you just have to accept that these short five hour campaigns have become the status quo now. Thought it was a phenomenon just exclusive to those short Call of Duty campaigns? Think again; anything in a first person perspective will inevitably be a short ride. Let's not forget THQ's apology regarding Homefront's laughably brief campaign, after all.

That's assuming it hasn't already. Honestly, I'd kind of like Metacritic to stick to the "actual" critic reviews for their averages, and ignore the user reviews altogether. Some other site can devote themselves to publicizing the public's entitlement rage.

I'm kinda happy to hear that portal 2 is as short as portal 1, I hate when games overstay their welcome. although I guess it should be cheaper than full price... I'll wait for the price to drop. I'm only on hour 76 of persona 4.

I don't know where these "Portal is 4 hours" comments keep coming from.

I beat Portal 2 while rarely getting stuck at any point and the game lasted 6 hours for me and there's still a coop campaign.

Little kids whining and crying like the babies they are about fucking hats. It's not like Metacritic has any credibility anyway.

Took me 5 hours or so, still have the coop to go. Worth every penny though, every line of dialog made me laugh.

Every, single, line.

Let me completely break their arguments.

1: [HEADING=3]Portal 2 for the PC is a direct port of the console version.[/HEADING]

This is fucking Valve, one of the last PC centric developers around. It is a PC game first and foremost, but with better console support. How is it a port? Are there not enough controls? Because Portal 1 had about the same amount of controls. Is it in terms of performance? Because so far from a low-end laptop to a beefy rig all my playtests point to "runs really great(when you adjust settings). So how, how is it a direct port of the console version?

2: [HEADING=3]Portal 2's online store is a rip-off![/HEADING]

The store sells hats, skins, and gestures. Hats, skins, and gestures. These things are purely cosmetic and do nothing to effect gameplay in any fucking way. They don't add anything, they don't change anything, they do nothing but make your bots look different.

In short, they're just some fucking hats and skins and gestures. If the lack of a hat made Portal 2 worse for you, you really need to back up and rethink your priorities.

3: [HEADING=3]ARG promotion was lame![/HEADING]

God forbid they bring attention to some indie games that you would have completely ignored. There's also the fact that you could have, you know, not have bought those games. What did you expect would happen when you bought them? Valve promised nothing. You all thought up something else, and got burned because of it. Moral of the story, think before you buy a bunch of random games for a vauge marketing stunt.

4: [HEADING=3]Portal 2 is too short![/HEADING]

Its obvious you haven't played the game. The main campaign is about 7-9 hours, and the co-op campaign is about 8-10. It of course varies by an hour or so depending on the person, but there's no possible way you ran through both campaigns in 4 hours for each one or so.

Seriously, all these complaints amount to nothing. There is little to no credibility to these complains. And any creditability that they could have had was pissed away when they started throwing tantrums like fucking children.

Oh, and another thing, why the fuck is Metacritic all of a sudden the "kind of ratings" or whatever? Didn't we all hate Metacritic? Again, any credibility you could have had was pissed away when you threw a tantrum like children and review-bombed the site.
