I love PC gaming but these reviews for the PC version are pissing me off. We're such self-entitled shit that we can't tell who truly loves PC gaming and those that intend to rip us off.

Your title is wrong. "Gamers" don't pan Portal 2. Most of the bashers candidly admit they didn't play the game.
Well, it's G4TV's headline. But technically they're still "gamers" even if they didn't buy this game.

People are seriously targeting Valve? One of the only modern day big game corporations that actually focuses on customer satisfaction? Whom doesn't force users to pay for DLC to complete their game experience/plot?
The game company that decides that instead of getting their lawyers to stop people making fan games, instead they hire the makers of good fan games and publish them.

Bunch of self entitled twats. Bet the ones claiming they beat it in 3 hours used noclip.

So people are complaining about micro-transactions? God, they would hate MMOs... I played WoW for about 3 years and on top of having to pay a subscription fee, if I want one of the cosmetic features (1 mount, some pets, faction/server transfers etc.) then I have to pay an additional $15-20 and people really don't complain. They are features that in no way change game play and are never required. Many MMOs do the same thing, or even sell actual gear, which DOES effect game play.

is portal 2 really the breaking point? thats what i dont understand...current DLC trends are utter bullshit, but portal 2 is a finished, great game, by a developer that has to fund themselves and is essentially indie.

we REALLY couldve picked a better target...DA2 and its ridiculous amounts of promotional DLC? dante's inferno selling us bloody level up points?

portal 2? really?!
Well thats the thing really, if you don't smack a dog the first time he shits on your carpet he will think it's ok, and if he got extra treats for it he would start spray painting walls.

And the big blowouts happen because noone pays attention, unless users go really radical the companies will plug their ears and just go counting the shinny new pennies, thinking of yet more things they could squeeze users over.

I may just convert to a religion that preaches reincarnation just for the opportunity to have your children more than once, that was fantastic and concisely points out just how stupid these arguments are.

This is why I never give two shits about Review aggregate sites. People are fucking stupid, unless proved otherwise.

I'm acutally looking forward to next week's Zero Punctuation. Thought, to be fair, The Escapist's review for Portal 2 was, I thought, pretty well balanced and fair. Russ didn't explode into a giant blob of over-excited goop.....

This was started by /v/ on 4chan, I have a screenie of it somewhere.
Basically some dickhead thought it be a god idea to try and get everyone from 4chan to give the games 1-0 + the troll comments.

Thats where we are now.

The length one is understandable though. A game you play for a long time (that you enjoy) is a better deal than one you beat in a couple of days and are done with.

i think this dude sums up the paper-thin arguments quite nicely.

they also specifically mention game length in this article
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/20/portal-2-in-4-hours-the-steam-timer-is-a-lie/

honestly these people are just trolling, self-entitled idiots

And that is what happens when people don't complain, it used to be that extra features sell the game, now they are an additional cost.
So this time they only sell unlockables extra, if noone complains next time they will be locking off levels, or just add less to the main game and do more DLC, why not sell co-op extra when people payed for Portal 1 without it, why not make it 60$ people will still buy it, ...

Things can go very wrong very fast, other companies are already selling guns, gold and experience as DLC, even demos are being sold, if noone points out the bullshit this will go horribly wrong.

I'd rate the game down for being so short given it's $60 price tag. When you got the first Portal, it was in a bundle that included Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2. The first Portal was basically a gimmie, so it was fine that it was so short.

But now Valve is releasing Portal 2 as a complete package, with a price tag to match. And there just isn't enough game there to support that. If I could, I'd get my money back. I did not receive $60 worth of game.

Case in point: triple A games take 20-30+ hours to complete in a full play-through, this is fact.

Mass Effect 1 took 34 hours my first time, and I was able to speed run it in 8 hours, with all side-quests completed. Mass Effect 2 took 22 hours in my latest speed-run attempt, but I'm still refining.

Portal 2, if you know what to do and where to go, I am confident I could complete it in 4 hours or less.

So we should complain about things that are not bullshit? Won't that just make complaining the norm, so when it is bullshit our complaints are par for the course?
Is acting like a bunch of entilted pricks going to get us anywhere?

Protests are complain that: they didn't like the ARG, it was short, they have to pay for DLC, and the game seems console oriented. Excuse me. *goes outside to scream over the shear frozen stupid*

Well the ARG is not the game and thus judging the game based on the ARG is dumb. Not to mention that most games do not have an ARG at all so you are complaining because Valve added more stuff to the game, nice job douchbag.

Yeah Valve is charging for DLC, so is everyone else. Valve was nice with releasing DLC free of charge for some games but they don't. Take your rage out on the company who decided to be slightly less generous not the game.

It was short is valid criticism. hopefully they judge other games in a similar way though since most games are kinda short now-a-days. At least its longer then portal though. Of course besmirching a whole review based on just this point would be stupid as well since they are other parts to the game.

As for the console thing...would you kindly take your PC master-race and cram it up your ass? People make games for consoles and choose not to completely re-engineer it for the PC. That's equality. Dealt with it.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go back to not giving a damn about the faceless singularity of stupidity that is the internet underbelly.

None if it detracts from the gameplay experience. Though I expected a little more from Valve in terms of DLC, I thoroughly enjoyed the game as a whole. I'm not spending a cent on cosmetic garbage, nor do I want any of it, so I'm unaffected by it all.
