There is no need for a sequel to portal. As good as it was, that magic "it" factor that it has could not be re-created. Any attempt would feel (fanboyism aside) very forced imo.

Portal 2 has never been directly confirmed by Valve. They have hinted at it before, but they've never said that they are actually making it.

I want ep3 before Portal, and I agree that nothing can compare to the original. I think the best thing to do is to incorporate the events in Portal into ep3 or HL3, that way it gets a "sequel" but it won't be compared to the original.

Anyway,Portal 2 has been confirmed for some time now,with different sources saying its a prequel and a direct sequel(Just look up wikipedia,of course -_-).

No really where the fuck IS Half-Life 2 episode 3. L4D and the L4D2 are all very nice but I want my god damn HL2e3. And as i have understood they will make Portal 2 and then possibly something more (L4D3??) before the HL2e3.

Dude, do you even have any idea how developers work? They have multiple teams working on different games. Smaller developers will work on a single game at a time, true, but Valve is one of the bigger developers, so it has several teams working on different things. Episode 3 is in development, just by a different team than the people who did L4D. Same with Portal 2. Different teams mean any new projects from one team have no effect on the other projects, save for perhaps one or two people working on something different to what they would otherwise have been doing. L4D2 has had absolutely no impact on the development of Episode 3. I can't believe people still fail to realise this, no matter how many times it gets said... No offence to you, OP, but you are pretty ignorant for thinking that bigger developers only ever have one project on the go at once...

The only way they could make a good sequel or prequel to Portal is to make it again. Changing it would only detract from it.

Valve obviously tried crowbaring the Portal universe into the HL universe with certain references in both games. So if they were to make a prequel or sequel to Portal, they would have to crowbar that into the HL universe as well.

A Prequel would likely involve the time when GLaDOS kills everyone in the labs...which wouldn't involve much portal gun puzzles.
A Sequel would involve the Borrealis ship thing. Again, I can't imagine that would involve many portal gun puzzles.

Maybe they could crowbar it in after HL ep3 is released...

Fuck Portal 2, infact, fuck HL2EP3 aswell, we've been waiting for it for so long I've actually lost any interest I had in it. While Valve were busy making a sequel to a game that had only been out a year, they must have forgotten about all the Half Life fans that have been waiting just over double that time for what will presumably be a 4 or 5 hour long instalment of a genuinely original story.

meh, i like the idea of portaL 2 but i don'tshe to point in half life 2 episode 3, why didn't they just bundle hl2ep1 hl2ep2 and hl2ep3 and make half life 3? it would be so much simpler.

as for portal 2 if at some point it doesn't overlap with half life 2 ep3 and vice versa i will be pissed off

it's in the Mystical Pot Land along with Jade Empire 2, and a international version of Mother 3. AS for sequel/prequel I haven't really heard that much about it to either effect.

i'm with this man, i vote they revamp it and make it part puzzeler part killing shooter, maybe they'll read my inagination and realese portal 2 and hlep3 as the same game with a press-button-to-switch-player thing, and the bit where portal and halflife overlap in game are seperate story arcs with different element whereby the portal arc is more of a puzzeler and the halflife arc is more action orientaited and doves will fly out of their arses and they'll throw in doughnuts and a pet crocodille that shits gold while they're at it
