I prefer the older version. the first is a little more like you actually having a discussion. Sorry, but the comedian just sounds a bit like he's presenting to an audience, rather than your character. Just doesn't fit the game as well.

I liked the older one as he seemed more up beat, a nice opposite to GLaDOS. To me the new voice isn't one i would attach to a robotic ball thing. I guess the first voice was just closer to the ones from portal one in my mind. Each little ball (in portal) has a personality trait not a personality, why would he be different?

I think I far prefer what was shown of the old 'voice actor'; he gave the character a real sense of childlike naivety, which seems to apply to his situation. i.e. being told he would die if he left the rail, or if he turned on a flashlight.

The second voice actor just seems more serious, and less affected by whatever situation Wheatley happens to be in at the time. I'm not denying he's a great voice actor, but I think the previous version of Wheatley fit the whole Portal universe so much better.

Really do hope it's not the last we hear from Richard Lord. ;)

I prefer the old one to be honest. It really grew on me the first time I saw the video months back. The new one is definitely improved in terms of the VA, but it doesn't sound as good as Mr Lord.

I love the new voice a zillion times more!

I didn't realise there was a difference at first, i just thought i'd gotten used to it, but now hearing them side by side i prefer the new one for certain.

Trust me, the first voice was not Australian...

OP: I prefer the second one, the first one seemed to annoy me a little, I mean it was still good and I'd be happy with it, I just liked the second one more.

the main thing I was angry about with these trailers is that they gave away the grand reveal of GlaDOS. I really dislike it when game developers release major plot details in their trailers. But I would have to agree, the old voice had a somewhat perky attitude, but if you don't have the talent, get someone with the talent.
My opinion: let the old voice do the lines once over, and if they like the way he does it, go for it. If they lack the money/resources/time, then go with the new one.

I prefer the original guy, his voice just seems much more believable for a Robots AI, especially in the dropping bit. It might be also because Merchants voice is too recognisable and I can't help but picture his face when the bot is talking. However, they should have just got Nolan North to do the voice to continue his dominance of the voice other industry.

I think it would be nice if they had made the voice sound a little more robotic. I dunno why, I'd just like that. Maybe have it be like GLaDOS, how there'd be little vocal malfunctions, it randomly going high or low and whatever. Maybe it will be like that when it's finished.

I'd love it if they used the same voice as the "cake recipe" core in the first one.

I really like Merchant as Wheatly. I didn't actually like Richard Lord's voice for him, it was kind of grating. But I could have gotten over it... unlike Harley Quinn's voice actor from Batman: AA. Jesus fucking Christ, that is the most ANNOYING voice ever!
