very worth it 10+ hours so far and haven't finished the multi. I've paid more for less before.

Also, Half life is currently $10 on steam, Fallout3 $10 and wow is and unlimited $$ if you keep playing it. Just saying.

Portal 2 is well worth it, in my opinion. The game's absolutely superb, and I'm not complaining about the 14 or so hours it took me to play through singleplayer and co-op. Since I play games mostly for those two things, I'm pretty disappointed in the six hours I usually get, and Portal 2 satisfies me completely.

Still, even if that's not enough, it is definitely quality over quantity. I'd rather have fourteen hours of near-perfect game than hundreds of hours of repetitive mediocrity (pretty much all MMOs, in my humble opinion).

Your coffe cup analogy was both terrible and completley unnesecary. I'm not sure why you felt the need to use such a lengthy analogy when you are disccusing a pretty simple concept; you didn't feel like Potal 2 was worth the money you paid for it.
What... You don't like metaphors? Analogies? You must not be a writer then. I am. I like to write, as do some people who frequent these boards. Also, you didn't have to read the whole thing. I did put a TL:DR at the end if you didn't wish to.

TL:DR - Okay.
I write quite often actually. It's becuase of this I am bothered by your completely unnecessary analogy. It's entirely pointless and doesn't help to get your point across, and if anything hinders it.

And being a writer has nothing to do with liking metaphors and analogies.

It's been on sale on Amazon, Best Buy, Gamestop, etc for $30 to $35 USD if you can catch it, plus the whole BOGO console/PC version deal. A good price for so new a game.

The dude abides!

I was actually thinking about this earlier, given I'm towards the end of Chapter 8 and not the best at puzzle games, it does seem a tad short...BUT I think that if the game went any longer then around 10 hours, one more puzzle could have been the tipping point for the game going from "fun" to "monotonous." I'd say its worth it in terms of the experience though. It has a great story and a different approach than most FPS games.

If someone is looking for a long lasting game for the price, I wouldn't recommend this. You can only do a puzzle X amount of times where as playing a game like Fallout, WoW, or CoD, one can sink in countless hours at a much fairer price.

I have to say, I find the coffee analogy extremely tiresome, but I get your point.
As soon as I was done, I was wondering the same thing: Was this really worth the price I paid? I have paid much more for longer, more fulfilling games. But thinking back, I realize that I probably feel this way mostly because we all know Portal I as a kind of "mini game" Valve released.
Portal 2 was designed to be an entirely new game with the intention of being a real.. well.. game. Production costs come into play here, though I can't say how much. But there is a lot more script which also means a lot more pay for the actors. The levels are much more detailed and engrossing than before which shows so much more effort.
The game might be short, but so is Pokemon, a few Zelda games, and I'm sure there are more examples. Sure those games generally have re-play value like catching all the pokemon, doing side-quests or some co-op things, but Portal has a fun co-op with DLC coming out to support those who want more.

All in all, I think it was worth it for the awesome effects, brilliant scripting, fun puzzles and co-op-ability. It might have been shorter than other games, but just as much effort(or more) went into it, I'm sure.

Pretty much all I have to say is I would be extremely pissed if I had actually paid for portal 2. I borrowed it from a friend and after beating the single player in a little under 4 hours I have to say I feel sorry for him for buying it. Honestly I think the only reason they can get away with selling this thing for full price is because of all of the valve fanboys, no other company would ever be able to get away with this shit.

Iv seen people in this thread compare it to some fps games but this has a shorter single player then any fps I have ever played and both the multiplayer and singleplayer has no replay value at all. The only thing that is fun about the games is trying to figure out the puzzles and there is no point if you already know how everything works. Its like yahtzee said its only good for a single play-through.

Say all you want about free dlc that will come out eventually but I will counter with this, when it does actually come out then il consider picking up the game used for $15. It wont be to long since im already starting to seeing it go for $30
Ha ha no you didn't beat it in four hours; however, if you seriously think that you did I'd love some actual proof (by the way, steam doesn't always accurately track your time played). To beat it in four hours would require you to solve every puzzle in under a minute or two and to skip dialogue and miss so much of the awesomeness that is Portal 2.

Shorter single player than most modern shooters? Have you heard of Modern Warfare or Homefront? I beat both of those single player campaigns in right under four hours. They weren't funny and were moderately entertaining at best. Portal 2 is both longer and far more satisfying.

I'm not sure how you buying the game for $15 counters free content? This point really doesn't make any sense.

Though your whole post reeks of flame-bait (poor grammar, spelling, content), so I'm not even sure why I'm responding. It's cool with me that you don't like the game and I respect your opinion, but please try to come up with some factual or subjective claims ("I just don't find it appealing" <-- I can't argue that) instead of making stuff up.

OT: Asking if Portal 2 is worth the price is like asking if it's worth it to breathe. Not to mention it's on sale in quite a few places for $30 - $35.

Living in Australia I had to pay about $100 for it and I think my money was damn well spent.

Also, free DLC maps in a few months. Heat that up for ya?
This.

Valve has a record of supporting their games with free updates years after the original release. Ask this question again in 2-3 years and I'm sure everyone will say it was worth it.
By that time it should be $30 give or take.....
And it will be an even better deal!

Depends what you want out of it. If you want a really challenging game you'll be out of luck. If however you want a fantastically written and implemented bit of entertainment then it is certainly worth every penny/cent.

Oddly it is an even better experience the second time through as the writing is chock full of foreshadowing, hints and joke set ups that seem like offhand remarks the first time through.

Only thing I hated about it was Merchant's voice acting. That man grates on my ears. Doesn't help that he does voice overs for Barclays bank in the UK. Portal 2 pretty much undermined the whole advertising campaign for gamers who now associate that voice with fantastically moronic ideas.

The game has been on sale at multiple retailers left and right, so look around and if you find one for $20 - 30 off, go for it. I'd say it's worth full price.

I absolutely think it was worth it. I enjoyed the story, and the characters, much more than the original Portal (most likely because there was more characters). I have yet to play the Co-Op (THANK YOU, PSN!), but I've already decided to run through the Single Player again, to get more trophies, yes, but also to pick up some of the little nuances I may have missed the first time through. I thought it was highly comedic, actually making me LOL on more than on occasion. It played well, was challenging without being overly so, and was just an all around good game.

I would have happily paid double.

All this emphasis on length, always length or time you spend playing. You know here's another metaphor, say you go to a restaurant all the time because the portions are huge, really good value for money. Then you go to a really fancy restaurant. The portions are comparibly small and the price is pretty expensive. However when you eat the food you know it's been prepared with utmost care, by people who make their careers getting the very best ingredients, people who combine flavours with artists attention to detail. You leave feeling completely satisfied despite having a smaller meal.

That was my experience with Portal 2. Granted this is not for everyone but so many games have this excess padding and fluff, mostly killing the same guys over and over or trapsing through the same dungeons or lengthy cutscenes or boss battles that you have to try time and time again to get past. This stuff is great at lengthening gameplay but what else does it offer? Sweet nothing.

This is not to say all long games are crap or fill themselves with padding but most of them sure as Hell seem to.

Games have no value. Stop pretending they do. Judge games by how much they add to your life, not how much time you spend on them.
