I've beaten Portal like three times but I don't have a copy for myself! Now I do! Unless it's temporary, then damn.
I don't like the uncertainty of trackpad clicking.Aidinthel said:My Macbook Pro has the touchpad itself as a button and senses whether I'm pressing with one or two fingers for left and right-click, respectively. It's a pretty nice system except for when I need to press both buttons at the same time.chaosyoshimage said:Well, there are two buttons right under the touchpad just like on a mouse. I'm pretty sure most laptops are like that, it's not an exclusive feature on my Toshiba Satellite...
I do have a mouse and I use it. I'm just saying that I could potentially get by without it.Erana said:Really, go get yourself anything else. A mouse, a gamepad, whatever. Just don't ruin a great game with broken controls.
I think mine does that too, but it has buttons as well.Aidinthel said:My Macbook Pro has the touchpad itself as a button and senses whether I'm pressing with one or two fingers for left and right-click, respectively. Yeah, I'll probably be playing this with a mouse. I'm currently playing Knights of the Old Republic and the parts in your ships's turret is hell for me...Erana said:I don't like the uncertainty of trackpad clicking.Aidinthel said:My Macbook Pro has the touchpad itself as a button and senses whether I'm pressing with one or two fingers for left and right-click, respectively. If you're going to use the trackpad, make the shift button be the alternate fire.
That being said, Trackpads are very bad for FPSs not because "everything is worse than the mouse and keyboard!!!1!" idea, but because they simply are much too unreliable. You don't really notice their faults with casual use, but when even the slightest motion dictates your visual movement, you'll start to notice that it just doesn't pick up all your finger strokes.
And not being able to turn around to shoot a portal onto a higher up platform in time makes some of the later chambers go from amusing and mildly tricky to just plain frustrating.
Really, go get yourself anything else. A mouse, a gamepad, whatever. Just don't ruin a great game with broken controls.
