I do not believe this has been discussed previously, my apologies if it had. Nevertheless I was curious as to what people, especially those outside of Canada thought about the recent new laws the Government has been attempting to implicate or what they have been complaining about as of late. If you are not aware, some of the recent ones I have listed below.

- The Canadian Government is demanding account information from Ebay, so they may tax sellers on the aforementioned website claiming that Ebay sellers are not declaring their earnings as income, which would be a taxable commodity. Ebay has been fighting this vehemently citing there is no justification that items sold on their website should be considered taxable.

- Speeding may now lead to a suspended license.

- It will be illegal to drive with more then one additional teenager in a vehicle.

The second and third may be up to the age of twenty-five although such has not yet been confirmed. They are currently stating the vague term "teenagers" and not offering a direct age, however at least until the age of twenty-one is expected.

In other news the Canadian Government has recently been complaining that too many Canadians have been driving down to the United States to book flights whether or not they intend to fly to another Canadian Province; the result has been quite costly to Air Canada. Why would people do this? That would be because Air Canada costs upwards of $1,200 for a direct flight from Montreal to Vancouver for coach (cheaper ticket possible) United Airlines charges a mere $500 by rough estimation if not even less for a flight the same distance, even if that flight is from an American State to a Canadian Province.

Thoughts?

The driving thing is similar to what they've done for P-platers here in Australia. It's now illegal for a P-plater under a certain age (I think it's 20) to have more than one passenger under a certain age (I think it's 25) at the same time. At the same time they raised the number of hours needed for an L to get to P from 50 to 120. Not fun.

Oh, and did you mean "implement"?

The sad thing is, I could actually see Harper implementing these if he actually got a majority. And if that ever happens, then I won't just be driving to the States to book tickets and shop at those super cheap outlet malls in Calais, I'll be staying.

Ebay thing = Fucked. totally balls out not cool. lets tax garage sales. Ebay should have a Business membership for those who use it to make a living. THOSE people should declare tax (and most do i think). everyone else shoud be fine

Speeding - Suck it. speeding kills

passenger limit - this sucks hard. It's currently law in australia as well

I know the feeling, it makes me glad I may be moving to the United States in December/January when I hear idiotic ideas like some of these. As a friend of mine said, all that will come of taxing Ebay should that take place, is people will create false American accounts as a front to avoid tax laws. All that would be required is a bank account in the United States, which means more business for the U.S. Canada really does not think things through.

As for speeding, I am on the fence regarding such a law as technically reckless driving causes death, not speeding directly. Many people drive fast, yet do not cause accidents, it is those that drive like absolute fools (zig zagging for example) that have accidents. Personally if they are going to begin suspending licenses for speeders, why only on "teenagers"? If it is good for one side of the age demographic, then it is equally justifiable for all ages.

Passenger limit is ridiculous, not everyone loads their vehicle just to joy ride and act like fools. There have been many a times I have gone to McDonalds or a video store with my cousins and I should be allowed to do so without an adult - which ironically I am technically considered after the age of eighteen.

Minnesota has an annoying passenger limit of one underage in the vehicle when you first get your' license. Then you gain an additional passenger every year.

I live in wondrous quebec where we have the awesome bill 101. The one that ensures that it's illegal for french not to be printed first on anything visible to the public (signs, menus etc.) and the french has to be at least 4 font sizes bigger (or something along those lines).

Also this law made Fable 2 only availible in french in quebec (unless you preordered an english copy specfically). I happened upon an english copy when I was in EB Games and someone had just returned their english copy preorder. I snatched it up a minute later.

I think that's the same for most states. In California, you get no underage passengers for your first year and no limit after.

As for the Canadian and Australian dudes: Do you know what the logic is behind the passenger laws? I don't get how they'll make anybody safer....

Less people die when the "hoons" (known to the locals as dickheads) fly off the road and hit a tree.

I did not have too much of an issue acquiring an English copy of Fable II. Interestingly enough that is the first game to ever be released in French as apparently Quebec attempted this some time ago in the past with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, demanding games be released in French as well as English. The respective companies laughed off the notion claiming they would no longer release games in Quebec if that were to be the case, and nothing came of it. Of course this was only a story I heard some time ago.

As for Bill 101, I know the feeling of that annoyance; tis one of the reasons I despise this Province as much as I do.

Pretty bad but could be worse.

Also traffic laws are per province, so which province is this?
In this case it was for Ontario although it has been spreading across Canada. I am not certain which other Provinces have opted to implement this law, if any for that matter however it has been discussed heavily.

Damn those dickheads :D

So the law is saying that, say, a 30 year old guy can't drive more than one teen? If it applied to teen drivers that would make sense but for adults it seems a little... hell I don't know how to describe it. Over-protective/dumb?

Sigh, apparently not, funny marijuana is legal in Ontario, but driving your teenage friends to see Madagascar 2 gets the police on your ass faster than you can say "I need some Doritos."

It's just for teens. People have complained but my friends who complain speed themselves and say it's just idiots who loose control. Then one lost their license for speeding. Hmmm...
