My friends dad is the lead singer in this band, though sadly the band broke up a couple of years ago D:

I was amazed when I learned they're from Sacramento, after I already bought their excellent Kiss or Kill album.
My personal favorite Decemberists song, they're from Portland Oregon.
Also, Woody Guthrie wrote this song about the Columbia River, which I live right next to so it kind of encompasses the sprite of the area.
