As most of us know, Iron Man 3 releases in North America on Friday, May 3rd. As most of us also know, this is Marvel Studio's first film to release in theaters since The Avengers. I want to know what you guys think is going to happen this time around with Marvel's second batch of films leading up to The Avengers 2! (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy. These are the scheduled films prior to The Avengers 2 as far as I know). Any theories, speculations or etc.?

I'm more curious to know just how far they're going to take the Marvel cinematic universe. They've already said that the Ant-Man movie will be the first in phase 3 following The Avengers 2. How far Marvel, how far?

I don't have any doubt that all of the sequels will be great movies. But frankly, I'm looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy most of all. I'm just so curious how they intend to pull something like that off. Cause if they can... it could be glorious.

Umm, I'm sorry but it has a gun toting raccoon. It's going to have a hard time of not being super awesome.

No see that's dumber than a chocolate fire guard. I mean they had to do an intro movie for the fucking hulk but they are just going to dive head first in to an anthropomorphic raccoon?

Smells like Jar Jar Binks with a foul mouth.

As a longtime fan of the iteration of the Guardians they're trying to adapt, I hope to the gods they don't fuck it up. Then again, if it is too good and everyone likes it I will be automatically turned into a Guardians hipster :(

Having seen Iron Man 3 already I'm not particularly impressed with the Marvel horizon, which has expanded too broadly in my opinion. I can't believe the movie belongs to the same reality as the first film. Imagine the first Iron Man movie with aliens and interdimensional gods. Everytime they were brought up in IM3, Tony would cringe like he didn't want to talk about the aliens because he had PTSD. I cringed because my mind wouldn't allow the wacky Thor universe to co-exist with the farely grounded IM universe.

At this point we have superheroes, mutants, Norse gods, aliens, giants and we're looking forward to anthropomorphic raccoons and ant-sized people - all of them framed from alternate history WWII to the modern-day USA vs. terrorism scenario. I cannot suspend my disbelief any longer.

Welcome to comic books. They definitely aren't for everyone.

I, however, eat this shit up.

... Where do you think the ideas for these movies come from? They are from the same universe as the comics, they are not "gritty re-imaginings" so the wackier stuff is still going to be used.

That's great but as I said before, we were discussing movies, not comic books. Just because something works in one medium doesn't automatically translate in another medium. Likewise, there's no sacred pledge regarding adaptation. Just because your source material is one way doesn't condemn the adaptation into being the same. Comics can be kitsch and campy in ways modern-day movies can't. Not without being cringey and awkward.

I honestly never even really liked it in the comics. Not that I'm a big comicbook reader, but the uniqueness of, say, Spider-Man gets severely diminished when you realize he shares the same world as the X-Men.

Putting every superhero together in one world makes nobody stand out, or in the words Syndrome; "When everyone's super, no one is."

My childhood fantasy was always that all my favourite things were actually happening in the same universe. They didn't even have to meet (though they often did in my mind), just the knowledge that they were in the same universe was enough of a fantasy for me. So yeah, I love the marvel cinematic universe a great deal, and I don't even read comic books. I love the thought that while Iron Man is shooting stuff on Earth, somewhere in the heavens, Thor is also doing something.

The only movie I care about / want to watch is another Hulk movie. I liked The Incredible Hulk and would like to watch another Hulk movie to see if a sequel can be done.

I'm really excited about Guardians of the Galaxy: As much as I ended up liking Cap and Thor, I really want to see what they end up doing with Rocket Raccoon and Groot. I think despite it being more of a goofy movie though, GoG will basically just be around to show off how threatening and/or far reaching the powers of Thanos actually are.

I'm also really curious to see what comes first: Avengers 2 or, Ant-Man which has apparently (and finally) being made. I'd also like to see a Black Panther movie. I can't wait to see Iron Man 3 but it's the next Captain America that I'm really chomping at the bit for (right behind Avengers 2 that is).

I loved Incredible Hulk but I'm a little bit worried that the next time we see a Hulk movie, it'll be an adaptation of World War Hulk. Well not worried: that would be freaking AWESOME.

I've seen Iron Man 3 already, and I really liked it, better than 2, almost as good as 1. If the rest of them turn out equally good, we're in for a great ride. Also, as someone who has only ever read a couple of Spider-Man comics, I'm really looking forward to the Guardians one, based on what Moviebob has written about it, and the couple of promotional pictures I've seen, it looks like a pretty fun movie. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the gritty realism when it comes to superhero movies, and a talking, gun-wielding raccoon? Sweet!

Also, what's up with Iron Man 3 releasing a week earlier in Norway(Europe) than North America? It's a Hollywood film, yes? So wouldn't it make sense that NA got it first, or a simultaneous launch? I'm curious about what happened there.

I saw Iron Man 3 last week. I really enjoyed it, much more than the second. It's definitely a promising start to the post-Avengers films.

As for where they plan to go next, well IM3 didn't really have much impact on the rest of the universe. It was very focussed on 'Iron Man's World' without any hints as to what's happening elsewhere (as far as I noticed at least).

I would suspect that Cap's and Thor's movies will be similar, that they will be separate movies much like the Phase One films. Hopefully some new heroes can get introduced for Avengers 2. The Falcon has already been confirmed to show up in Winter Solider, along with Black Widow. I'd like it if they fleshed her character out a bit more, but she does have a rather convoluted history in the comics.

With Thanos teased at the end of Avengers, I suspect Guardians of the Galaxy may introduce him in some aspect.
Thanos is Gamora's adopted father and Drax was killed by Thanos, only to be revived in a new body and his sole purpose is to kill Thanos

Which may lead into Avengers 2 somehow.
