So I just finished Fallout 3. I got about 23 hours of gameplay out of it which seems a bit short for a rpg like this but I did enjoy most of it. The last few hours were a bit too easy though. As long as you keep enough stimpacks with you it's a cakewalk really. I ended up playing the game as a good guy (only killing people who attacked me first). I'm guessing the game would be harder when played as an evil character?

I havent completed it yet, I've been going through all the side quests mainly - thats until my 360 died but I am playing as a evil character and it isnt that hard. The karma probably effects only the ending.

I was rather disappointed in the last few bits and the ending as well. Was expecting you know...more omph!

To the OP its quite funny as i just finished the game about half an hour ago too.
I played as a Bad guy and the game was generally easy as well.
After getting a Chinese assault rifle with 400 bullets i could easily plow my way through each dungeon...
I was also a sneaky bastard which made it a lot easier to kill things, the whole sneaky sneaky first shot = major damage.
One point i wanted to point out though is that once you do the last level you cannot continue the game... So say for example you save at the last point and you only have one save you're pretty screwed as the doors magically lock and you have to either save the day or fuck everyone elses up.
I did quite a few side quests but in total it took me 19 hours to do.
I didn't spend time locating things but i did spend a lot of time seeing my friends the ghouls in Tenpenny tower :)

Bit silly though... I played the previous Fallouts and they were off the chain... they were very long and had a lot of content to last me till the end of time.
Heck even oblivion served me longer than this game but thats not the point. The point is that i was satisfied :)

I probably did miss a lot of the content but I didn't really feel the need to find everything.

That is a valid call but you need to realise that what makes an RPG is the sidequests. I can name very few RPG's in the last five years that had a main storyline longer than 23 hours, even the free-forms.

So playing as a bad guy doesn't make it harder? I'll probably ramp up the difficulty slider for my next run then.

As i play it on the 360 i will hit level 20 on this character first then i'm gonna start a Neutral to Good character as i felt like a complete bastard while playing the game. The whole being bad thing is fun at first but after a while you want to be nice to certain people.
If you are going to be evil then just do the bare minimum to be evil... a.k.a. Pickpocket, eat corpses, steal and blow up Megaton.
I did earlier receive my comeuppance when a random Super Mutant master came out of no-where and mauled my face off :( 1 hour of gaming to waste :(
Oh well :)

I do realize side quests are a big part of a rpg. The problem with fallout however is that there seems to be very little incentive to do them. In older rpg's doing side quests was essential to bolster your character to do the much harder main quests. In fallout you can basically skip every side quest and still be strong enough to complete the main quests. Just doing the side quests for the heck of it doesn't appeal to me.

I find its often easier to be the bad guy and to simply take what you want, when you want. I sometimes start out with intentions to be a good guy only to loose it when that smug NPC asks you to do his dirty work out of the goodness of your heart... I always end up giving him a shotgunblast in the face instead of some stupid trinket he misplaced and, apperently, is too lazy to go get.

I've probably played about 12 hours so far (after restarting) and have spent so much time exploring and getting sidetracked I haven't even gone to the GNR station yet to find my father. I found it very difficult until I got to about level 4 or 5, but now that I can sleep in Megaton for free when I need healing, caps and stimpacks seem much more plentiful.

That's where we're different, I suppose. I found the characters interesting, and found exploration in and of itself very compelling. Fallout 3 doesn't spoon feed you the same way Fable 2 does, so I find myself getting much more engrossed in what's going on.

Valid. Myself, I did them because I like learning more about the fictional world they put together. You see so much more of the game doing sidequests than you do with just the plot and this I enjoy.

You should indulge yourself in the game fully, that's how I'm getting the most out of Fallout 3, don't rush. I'm 26 hours in yet I just recently finished the galaxy news radio quest.

Also I didn't do the side quest because of the incentives, I did it to get a grip on the world that I was in. I found some side quests to be fun actually, especially the ones that require you to act on your own. It's quite refreshing not having markers point you in the right direction all the time.

Is there a reason why this can't go in the OFFICIAL Fallout 3 thread? I mean, it's nice and all but that one has already hit 26 pages, it seems silly to start another.

Never played Fable2 but I do agree when you say that fallout3 doesn't spoon feed the gamer. Also I'm kinda glad I didn't see everything in my first go. It means the game has lots of replay value.

Is that even possible? You been hunting for crocodiles or something? Ha ha :)

The reason would be that I didn't bother to use the search button. My humble apologies for that.

I've just been hunting super mutants. I probably killed thousands. Blowing their brains out just never gets old. Also if you shoot them in the torso up close using a shotgun, it's just bloody nice!
