I just finished watching the anime Elfen Lied and I was left with a feeling I have experienced many times. Post Series Depression, Post Series Depression (PSD) is the feeling I tend to get after I have finished a series. Even if it had a great ending and wrapped up everything nicely I still have a strange emptiness left over from the realization that I have taken in all this series has to offer and I have lost the surprise and anticipation I get by watching an episode I haven't seen. This even extends to video games after I have beaten them and unlocked everything. But not so much with movies because watching those with friends feels like a new experience every time in my case.

The series that gave me the worst PSD would have to be.
Elfen Lied (as I had mentioned above)
Lost (mostly due to the crappy ending)
Gantz
The Harry Potter Books
Hellsing
Okami (due to the "Point-Of-No-Return)
The World Ends With You, Castlevania-Dawn of sorrow and order of Ecclesia, and Kingdom Hearts II (I completed them all 100%)

what shows, games, books, or even movies gave you Post Series Depression?

Ah, Red vs Blue gave me Post Season Depression, mainly after Reconstruction, but because that was one of my favourite season finales ever.

As for series, Black Books is a definite.

Post Series Depression, neh? No, I don't think I get that, I get something I call:

Anime Withdrawal : When you catch up with a series, but it's not finished yet, so in its' incompleteness nothing else can satisfy you.

This happened to me first with Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I started marathoning my way up to episode 50 or so until I finally caught up and started to have to wait each week for a new episode. I tried watching another anime after catching up, but it just didn't feel right. I had to wait a while before anything else was appealing again.

It happened a second time with Neon Genesis Evangelion. One day, I decided to marathon the entire series and all 4 movies, finishing the night with Rebuild 2.22. It was an epic 18 1/2 hour marathon and it was completely worth it. The problem, however, is that Rebuild 2.22 doesn't finish off the Rebuild movies; there's 2 more movies yet to come out. Because of that, I suffered 'Anime Withdrawal' for about 3 weeks. In that time, the only thing that appealed to me was Rebuild 2.22 again, which I have now watched a total of about 6 times.

Most times when I watch a series through to it's end to be honest. As the final credits roll, you know that you've seen all there is to see, it's a somewhat sad feeling.

Especially if it's like Neon Genesis and you still don't know quite wtf they were on about with the final episode, even after adding in an extra feature afterwards :/
I'm so glad they decided to do the rebuild :p

Also the first time I watched the entirety of Blackadder Goes Forth, the ending is truly well done which makes it all the more depressing that it's all over.

Huh I remember that feeling when Elfen Lied ended. I also remember the weeks of searching for information on it and whether there was going to be more. Eventually it went away with the aid of Higurashi.
Other series were Angel Beats, Working, and Tower of Druaga.

The Wire. I watched it, loved it, and was sad it was over. Plus, it ruined everything else out there because they just sucked in comparison to The Wire. After watching it, I gave up on Heroes, Prison Break, Lost and Fringe.

That's a big issue with Hellsing Ultimate, the final few episodes are coming out months and months after the latest one.

The first time this happened was the Broken Sky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_Sky)
The only other time I can remember this happening is the Fifth Ring books. God those ended sadly.

I remember having this feeling after finishing Code Geass. I thought it would be a good idea to give myself a birthday present and watch the series finale on my birthday. Except then all I could think about for the rest of the day was how I wanted more.

I almost had this with Tales of Symphonia as well, but luckily that has a lot of replayability because I haven't gotten 100% yet.

I second the Harry Potter books, especially cause I basically pulled an all-nighter to read the last one, so I was not only struck by the depression, but also the realization that I could have made it last so much longer.
Also, I just watched Inception a few days ago, and afterward I just had that really weird feeling of emptiness and all I wanted to do was see more crazy mindfuckery but I couldn't find anything that even remotely sounded good to do the rest of that day.

I just finished the series (Elfen Lied by the way) yesterday (I'm kinda new to anime, only about 1.5 years being a fan) and I almost lost it at the end so I tracked down the OVA just to get a little comic relief filled, fan-service fix.
such I good series... yes I know the manga is better but I already know how it ends.

Inception didn't really give me that I figured from the ending... it was all just a dream
but I figured I couldn't really ask for much more, in fact my friend said "I hope there's a sequel... I kinda wanted to punch him for saying that he wants the ending ruined like that.

where as in Elfen Lied
I wanna know who's behind the door, (I assume it's Nyuu with the Lucy part of her personality heavily damaged, symbolized by the working clock and the music stopping)

Elfen Lied, it was probably the only anime I actually read the manga of after I finished.
Gunslinger Girl, really entertaining but ended on a stupidly happy note.
Disgaea anime, shut up, it's not that great but I really did enjoy it a lot more than I should've. Actually, when I finished it I acually rewatched it, and still do sometimes.

I remember watching to the end of DBZ, where they show just a glimpse of the future. It tore at my heart seeing Gohan, this little five year old I remember getting ***** slapped by Piccolo, showing up with a kid of his own. I think its only natural for the end of a show to make you feel sad, a little like the death of a good friend.

Of course, all things have to end eventually. When a series wants to come to a natural end, when everything to be said has been said, best to wrap it up with a good ending and let it go gracefully. The alternative is to bury it in the Pet Sematary and bring back an abomination that has no right to be.

Yes, to see the end of a good series has to be bittersweet. You see the healthy progression of life, the moving on to new things, and at the same time, you get a little taste of your own death.

Deadwood, one of the greatest series, never to have a 4th season.

Cowboy bebop, but then again, not everything has a happy ending.

The Bolivian diary... the ending sucked. (On a serious note: reading about once life and reading it end, just makes it more 'ending'.. can't really explain this one.)

Well, I didn't necessarily want a sequel, I just wanted to continue to experience the epic awesomeness of the movie, and I couldn't. Also, I thought
that right at the very end, just before the screen went black, the top started to wobble ever so slightly side-to-side. Whereas in dreams, the top always spun around a perfectly vertical axis, I could swear there was enough of a wobble to imply that it was actually reality, or at least to make you question whether it was a dream or not. (On a side note, that whole last shot with the top it felt like my heart had stopped beating and I held my breath until I saw that wobble and then I resumed normal bodily functions
Which actually kind of reminded me of the ending of Shutter Island where
the movie is pretty ambiguous, and doesn't give enough evidence to definitively say he's relapsed or that he's just pretending he has so he doesn't have to go on knowing what he's done. It just lets you see what happens and draw your own conclusions.

Wow, that got pretty tangential. But the point is I was left with like six hours in which I was utterly unable to enjoy anything because that movie was over.

(I literally just signed up to reply to this...)
Arrested Development.
When that ended, a little part of me died.

That is all.
