I think I made it clear that it is really just my personal preference. I like how the health bar goes down because it creates a sort of tension: I don't see the number of damage I do but only a percentage, it can be a surprise when I get a critical strike or it can be even better when I expect the stone edge to do only ~30% damage when it suddenly hits and the bar goes down and down and down for over 40% and I have to realise: Fuck, it is choice banded...

The flow of Pokemon battles is slower, yeah, but it creates just another level of immersion for me. Even in comparison with your video I have the feeling that the combat is just more fluent for me.

Personal preference... I don't even want to imply that you are wrong on your stance, you aren't.
personally, I'd like the Pokemon battles to have an option that looked like this:

The best team I ever had was way back in Gold Version. Not Heart Gold, the original Gold.

Lugia
Venusaur
Blastoise
Flareon
Jolteon
Aerodactyl

In my many, many, many battles with that team vs both CPU opponents (Stadium 2, when they can actually be difficult) and players, I never lost once. Much of the time I could just open with Lugia and sweep my opponents entire team. Even freezing it solid wasn't good enough, its leftovers kept it alive long enough to thaw out and take you down. :D

My rule when battling was only 1 legendary allowed on your team. Too many players would just have teams with nothing but legends and that doesn't show if you are good as a trainer or not, only that you use the strongest ones you can find. Using pokemon that aren't legends are the real test. Everyone hates Flareon because it doesn't have the best stats but you will never see me without one on my main team. :)

I only use Gen 1!
Hipster XD Gen 2 and 3 are fine too. Never played Gen 4 and Gen 5 was meh for at least half of them...

OT: I like having

Gengar
Raichu
Marowak
Feraligator
Umbreon
Raticate

This would only be my ideal team if we're not talking about in-game stats. I just like how they look :)

I hate Flareon because it means I passed up the chance to have the infinitely superior Umbreon :p
Seriously though, Flareon's alright. It is a shame its stats are so awful for what it is :(

Porygon-Z
Chandelure

Of course, I'm definatley more of a non-legendary person.

He said Porygon-Z, that's the third form that came about in the 4th generation.

Anyway...not just considering raw strength (becauselolnoobswithfulllegendaryteamsonline)

Electabuzz
Leafeon
Typhlosion
Honchkrow
Druddigon
Heracross

I just like these guys. And they're good. So, win-win. I choose Electabuzz over Electivire because I don't like the way Electivire looks. He reminds me of the Pokemon equivalent of a guy in a gorilla suit.

Charizard
Alakazam
Golem
Gengar
Gyrados
Machamp

There probably my 6 favourite Pokemon, I really like Mewtwo but I'd rather have Alakazam.

Holy random deity! This is a necro if I ever saw one!

*ahem*, Anyway, to the topic at hand... My Pokemon Dream Team consists of Pokemon that I actually like, not for their stats or combat efficiency (You know, the reason that retard by the name of Ash Ketchum refuses to buy a Thunderstone already). So, without legendaries, here goes:

Bannette (My favorite Pokemon for a reason I don't know myself.)
Metagross (A walking, not to mention psychic tank)
Ninetales (Majestically Awesome)
Weavile (Like it for no particular reason.)
Golurk (Transform and Roll Out!(The thing can friggin' FLY for crying out loud!))
Skarmory (An iron clad bird that shoots spikes.)

I think I actually covered every Generation :D

Of course it is all just preference, I still like Pokemon games and do find battles with tough opponents still exciting (mainly if we are equal in level) and I might give em another go (I loved all the other games, but got a bit bored of Black)

The slower combat does make for good tension in big fights, but for wild encounters you can kill in half a second, it get's a bit tedious. The biggest bother is how the text boxes have to tell you everything you already know, such as getting buffeted by a sandstorm each round, if it is super effective or not (I find a "Weak" or "Resist" appearing over the enemy as soon as the attack connects to be more effective but that's just my opinion) how it has to do a Pokemon roar (or cry as the game puts it) or how long it takes to switch Pokemon, easily minor problems but quite consistent.

I still love exploring the world and thwarting the plans of the next team that comes up and I might pick up Black 2 one day (I heard you can get all your Pokemon from Soul Silver into Black 2, that is a plus)
I agree with everything this dear sir has stated above. The weather conditions and status problems between turns in particular can be really agitating if you're in for a long battle. I wish it could be more compact, quicker. Maybe have a battle log you can access in fight so you can see in detail what happens.

My dream team will always be my favourite Pokemon.

- Ninetales
- Persian (my spirit Pokemon!)
- Umbreon or Espeon
- Lapras or Tentacruel
- Meganium
- Butterfree or Pigeotto

A good trainer wins with their favourites. The problem is, I have a lot of favourites!
